How can I change my IP address?

I need a different IP because I think someone is cheating me with a script that bans my IP from seeing the cheat. So I want to change my IP to see if I'm right.

I use att cable internet but it always assigns me the same IP. I tried rebooting, unplugged my modem, even called them and they say the server has control of it.

Is there anything I can do?

ipconfig /release will release your ip and ipconfig /renew will get a new one but only if you are connected directly to the internet and not behind a firewall and if you isp is running dhcp.

Yep, at&t runs dhcp. Sounds like I am stuck with this IP unless I don't use my computer for a long time or something. I tried some of the other IPs and they are very slow. I will keep looking for one with descent speed.

"In the DHCP environment, available IP addresses remain in a pool until they are needed. Once assigned, the address stays with that computer for a certain time period and then returns to the pool if not used. This means that more users can be supported with fewer addresses, thus assisting in the implementation of uniform equipment and service requirements for the latest cable Internet service industry standards."

This will only work if the isp assigns you a new address. In many cases it will assign you the same one.
and if in windows, a more "windows-ish" way, would be to run: winipcfg

turn of your cable modem for more then 24 hours ! then it will loose its current ip and get a new one. unless your cable company assigned you a static ip !
