No no, they actually want to dig a trench across the 49th parallel until Canada snaps off and we can paddle it over to Europe and actually JOIN with them. :D

Serious.

Quote:
The push to remove trade and investment barriers with the EU countries comes as Canada is making an effort to lessen its dependence on the United States, its largest trading partner.
Sounds like a good plan to me. Especially since later in the article they say:

Quote:
The pitch he is making to Europeans is to do a deal with Canada that can serve as a model for something far more ambitious with the United States.
Oh no0ooo... not forward thinking in Canada! Who do these canucks think they are??

Seriously we already have some pretty big trade deals in place with many EU countries, no reason not to make it a "NAFTA-like" agreement and turn up the volume.

I do you ass. But you were insinuating something. Especially the "wtf?" bit at the end. Admit it: you read it wrong AND you jumped to conclusions.

The UK definitely does not want to use it and large majorities in countries that make up "New Europe" are also very against the Euro

This isn't far-fetched at all. I do expect Canada to join some broader Form of the EU some time in the future. Same for Australia.

Yeah, it wasn't that long ago that people thought a European Union was inconceivable

Well, that's true. On the greater scale of things we're quite similar at this stage to the US. We're just in an earlier stage. The seperate countries(states) have their own laws but there is a unified European law(there almost was a constitution). We share a currency and the the rest of the countries(states) will follow. There is a European capital, everything.

The constitution they tried to push through has now become the Treaty of Lisbon. In most EU countries treaties can be ratified without the people of the country voting. Ireland, fortunately, requires people to vote on such legislation and the majority of voters there voted in opposition to it. They will eventually find a way to push this through and the EU will be one LARGE step closer to becoming the "United States of Europe or more accurately the EUSSR...

Yes, the EU is not going the route of the US, as you insinuate, in so much as it is going the route of the USSR, but instead of invading countries to expand their territory the EU more or less bribes them. The EU was, some say, modeled to be a "nicer" version of the USSR and the way the central government of the EU is being setup in a very similar manner.
