So as some of my friends know hunting is something I enjoy doing every year. I finally got a chance to land me a young buck out here in the northern california mountains. Layed him down from about 150 yards out. It's my first buck so I thought I'd share it with GFY. Check it out!





one with me and gordon a good ol' boy i've known forever. helped me through the process of killing, cleaning, and all that good stuff.

Also I thought I'd like to note since this was my first kill I had the pleasure of learning how to clean, skin, and quarter a deer. It was a unique experience to say the least.

lol nah but i had a camo jacket on earlier. i killed it at about 8am in the morning. then it got hot because we had to hike a mile or two looking for another deer that was shot. the blood trail ran out and we never found that one unfortunately.

obviously a rifle like you said. i was using a winchester .243 featherlight bolt action rifle.

Yeah, it is legal here in Arizona. I would have preferred something bigger but had been hunting all day by the time I saw him and said fuck it. The younger they are the better the meat is anyway. I got drawn this year, I believe my hunt is next month.

listen spunky i know you love animals and so do i. i don't just go out there and blast a deer for the fun of it. it's a family tradition and everything on the animal goes to good use. it's a natural thing and is not for some people.

also no i don't bait them with scents and calls. i also don't go on deer farms like the guys you see on tv.

Chill out people, there are plenty of deer out there.

We have so many around here in Florida it's insane. We even get nuisance permits and can shoot them at night.

On our farm in Georgia, we are over run with deer. Doe season lasts 30 days it's so bad.

Doe meat rules though, (compared to a buck) especially when all they eat is soybeans and corn. Almost like roast beef and no gamey taste at all.

Nice buck. Hunting season hasn't started here yet. I don't hunt but I let my brother hunt on my property. Nothing beats a freezer full of venison in exchange.

Odd that the pictures are not loading for me.

As for the killing animals and murder, blah blah. If you will eat it, your defending something, or it needs killing, then kill it. Really wish I still could go larger game hunting where I do not have to stay in a blind or can due it properly from an ATV or boat. I just can not risk not being able to follow a potentially wounded animal that the shot was slightly off, and I feel that would not be right. If I still cound persue properly or not risk it getting away as much (smaller game like fowl, etc is OK) then I would.

personally i wont kill with a gun but bows are fine by me...people can use guns that is their choice i aint hating on them...love my crazy friends that go boar hunting with knifes tho that is raw as hell

well i guess thats not totally accurate i do use guns on fowl...i was speaking about large game with bows...also i gotta admit guns are a little better than bows for cleaner painless kills

at first i was tempted to my a small buck crack, but then i held a mental image of my last years buck, which brought tears back to my eyes. i thought it was a doe when i got him along the tree line last night of season. here's to hoping i have a better 09 buck, only 3 weeks or so until alberta season opens...

for all the bleeding hearts in here, have a shit over this. every year i fill my supplumentary tag in the first few days blowing the head of a fawn. they are young, dumb, and tasty as all fucking hell. those little steaks melt in your mouth so good! it's like heaven on your tongue. i wait for the first young fawn (sometimes a yearling) who stands within reasonable range and give me the clear shot, and i do my best to skullcap the fucker. you know, like the pink mist? the jfk shot? there's no running away after you take one of those shots. a wounded deer running fills with blood, toughens up the meat a bit. there's ain't no better eating than a nov 4th bambi with his head blown clear off....

besides it helps get that itchy trigger finger fever out, and allows me to maintain some sense of patience while trophy hunting...
