Option two hasn?t panned out so much either. I have dated two people in the biz and hung out with two. Both of my EX's work in my business. Let me explain why it doesn?t work out. You see, if you break up with someone in this biz you will inevitably continue seeing them on a regular basis until one of you leave the business. In fact I see one of my Ex's 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. Yeah, our companies merged this year and now we get to be broken up and work about 15ft from each other everyday! Can you say awesome?!?! It?s not that bad now but it has had it?s want to claw his eyes out moments.
I see one of the guys I used to hang out with every once in awhile. It?s never comfortable to run into Ex?s especially when they have new people and your meeting the new people..it?s just down right awkward. Now I get to see these blasts from the pasts for the rest of my life!!! Oh hey, how ya been? It?s so awesome that you?ve seen me naked and we are forced to interact on a social level. Luckily I have dated or hung out with fairly decent people, so it?s not that bad. But this leads me back to ground zero..

So this is something that has plagued me for several years. I am quite certain it plagues most people who work in the wondrous world of Adult Entertainment. Although I am fairly certain it plagues the small percentage of the industry that is female and happens to work behind the camera more. You see, my usual first encounter with a new hottie goes something like this:

Hottie: Hey There! What?s your name?
Me: Hey .. bad pick up .. but I am still willing to give you a chance because your cute. My name is Megan.
Hottie: Well Megan, I come here often and havn?t seen you before. I come here every Friday after work with my co-workers. We work in the Financial industry? you know stocks, bonds, loans. .:: right about now he winks, because for some reason I am supposed to be impressed:: What do you do?

I don't work in porn either, promoting affiliate programs behind the computer isn't really "working in porn" such as dealing with production and content. I have never been on a porn set in my life or even met a pornstar. I consider myself working in advertising/marketing. I never tell people I meet right away that "I work in porn".

I just direct the flow of traffic.

I've been in the biz since I was 23. I'm 33 now. All through my twenties I thought it was the coolest thing in the world to be part of this business. I would totally introduce myself as a "porn site operator". ESPECIALLY when I used to work for Hustler. It was fun to tell people I "help run some of the largest online porn sites in the world".

All guys think it's the coolest thing and want to be my bro right away.

Most girls thought it was cool too but at the same time they instantly thought I must be some weird sex pervert. Just like Megan has hotties thinking she must be some slut getting ganbanged on her desk..us guys get women automatically thinking we must be sleazballs.

There's no reason to announce too quickly "hey I work in porn". It's cool when you're young but unnecessary when you're older and are trying to be more mature. I only mention it now once I trust someone.

I've found it's easier to get someone to like me first and THEN I let them in that the sites I run are "adult". By that point the person all ready likes and trusts me. But it's never worked out well when I say it too soon.

At this point, I'm just in it as a job/work, in my opinion, this business is horrible on relationships which is probably why i've been single for more years than I care to remember but I'm not about to give up on my work.

I agree 1000% percent. The worst part for me was being stuck at home for days at a time. This business can be very anti-social.

As corny as it sounds, I actually like having a "day job" now cause it actually gets me out of the house.

Wow, after reading that Megan I realized we had a lot more in common that I thought, hehe. In regards to what you said about dating in the industry, it's called "you don't shit where you eat" and unfortunately, I had to learn that through experience like you. That always sucks. But in my opinion what you're going through is not because of the industry we're in, it's because you're a highly intelligent, ambitious go-getter that's also highly competitive. It's unfortunate that only a small percentage of men are able to be with a woman like you because most men eventually become threatened. I know alot of woman with your same story. My advise to you and to my gf's encountering the same dilemma...focus on your career now while it's only you and you have the ability to do it. You're right..it's always a boy's club at the top, and to compete you have to be able to work harder and put in more hours than they do. You'll have enough time for everything else later...when you're at the top.
