Yeah well about "what do you do" it's just about the worst cliche I can think of and of course I hate it.

I've basically two solutions to answer - an extremely boring job like "I work in insurance" - works like a charm and the person will most likely never ever look at you again, or an exciting job like "I am licensing TV programs for a well known international company" as the opposite.

But I am not going to uncover the adult part to anyone who doesn't know me very well, which is not too many people. The general perception of porn is basically the flesh part which is something too visual to get over.

Things went so far that I am about to print me a custom "mainstream" visit cards with the mainstream company and my contact details on it so I can look more credible in the "real" world, as far as I can put together mainstream web presentatioins too it might be even worth a dime.

Megan, you know you tell people you work in porn because of the immediate reaction you get. No one does this. It doesn't mean you should be ashamed of what you do but "porn" isn't really what you do so why start off with such a thing? I just say I make websites and progress from there. Its not lying.

If I date someone outside of the industry; I always say I work in Internet Marketing before I reveal any other details. If they make it past 2 dates, then I will reveal more than that. The first meeting and couple of dates should be about getting to know someone. Granted, I care that you have a job and that you like your job and that you are a driven person... but I don't really need details outside of that right up front. I have dated people I work with and that definitely makes it easier to be able to talk about the industry, but at the same time attending conventions with jealous boyfriends is no fun. For some reason, the people I've dated outside of the industry seem to find my work talk terribly boring. Then again, I don't get to be on porn sets either.

I think it's pretty apparent that "conversation" was for entertainment value. Of course it doesn't go down exactly like that. I don't use it for shock value ... my job on a whole is not all that interesting, outside of the product i sell. Which i explain to people when they inquire.
