Do you think the Movie Theater price is worth it?

I would pay $10 to see a movie, but more than that for a ticket seems to be crazy in my opinion.

Most of the time no. I really have to want to see a movie to go to the theater. They come out on DVD so quickly now that you can just wait a few months and watch it at home without sitting in an uncomfortable chair and having to hear other people talk and chew on their food like a heard of cattle.

It's $12 here now.

I don't go to the movies anymore to be honest. I used to every week, but the increase in price is not justified.

I never go to the movies anymore. Even if it was free I probably wouldn't go. Waiting in line, sitting in the seats, getting stuck in front of some coughing ass hole. I just watch movies in the comfort of my own home.

I love going to the movies and rarely pay attention to how much I pay for the trip. I only go to movies that I have studied the reviews and almost always go on opening days whent he crowd is low.

I like watching only action movies. They are exciting and lots of adventures. If I buy a ticket for $10 bucks and popcorn and drinks, it worths $20. That's pretty expensive

Hell no man.
I like to relax at home watching a movie.
It's nice and leisurely for my woman to suck on me and fondle me all through the film.
I might have her to pleasure me in a movie theatre some time but I'm not really one to see a movie at a theatre any way.

In Florida they have Muvico's with the "Premier". its 20 bucks a person. You get to sit on a loveseat instead of chairs. You get food & drinks (alcohol), I think its worth the extra 10. Ofcourse the movie makes it worth it. If it sucks the tickets are worthless.

Totally.. the VIP theater here costs under 8 bucks. Big huge recliner seats, assigned seating, and a glass of beer served to your seat. Well worth it...

Redshoe I really do not pose, I am pretty much a "cheap ass" as some would put it. I save wherever I can and really do not have an ounce of get it first syndrome.

Movies to me just to not cut it at all. My seating is highly restricted to a few slots near the back or front row. Rarely is the sound up to par as it should be which I know is just the theater being cheap on maintenance. Food and beverages are highly overpriced. Then my body just can not take the climate control often which is nobodies fault yet something I deal with.

When it comes to spending money I am fickle. I can easily drop hundreds hanging out with some friends then on the flip side I clip coupons and use them. I guess it depends on a situation and reason. I know I would rather just spend or save the 40-50 bucks it costs for two to go to the movies and have a drinks and some snacks. Specially when I know I can watch the same movie if not more of the movie due to extras added to a DVD for about half the rate and I can keep the movie to boot. If it is rented it comes down to next to nothing cost wise.

I think we pay 5 or 6$ to see the movies here, and 7 if we go to the VIP which has leather recliners, and what not.

And thats for first run movies.

Wife and I saw Batman on opening day for less than 20$ Including drinks.

Maybe people here are more civilized at theatres in the states, but at $6 for a ticket and no one coughing, rarely talking, VERY rarely phones ringing, and comfortable seats I don't mind going at every opportunity I get.

This includes the fact that most movies are out on DVD by the time they hit theaters here.

I pay about $4 to see the latest movie in Thailand and our theater blows away most USA theaters.

Totally worth it.

But if you want to go Bangkok and pay about $14, you can go to the most bad ass theater probably in the world. The chairs are like lazy boy recliners but bigger and more plush. They tuck you into the seats and cover you with a blanket. Up until recently they offered free 10 minute massage after the movie in the private lounge for their theater but they are no longer offering this, though you still get free drinks in the lounge.

BTW... I went to a theater in Jakarta a while back, nice place, but EVERYONE was talking through the entire movie. Different culture I guess but god damn it was horrible. Taking calls, calling people, full on conversations... ruined the movie.

Doesn't bother me. I'd pay 20 bucks. Higher priced tickets would keep assholes who don't really care about movies out of the theater.

I hardly ever go now.

It's getting more expensive every time i go. There's usually assholes who talk, cough, and munch all the way through the movie. And i'm paying for this ??

Unless it's something i really want to see right away, i just wait and watch it at home now...

i like to go..but i drive to a small town nearby...their theatre is almost empty, we rarely have anyone in the same row as us...and no one to yell out during the movie

if i want to go see it the price is not an issue...it is well worth it to get the big screen action

i only have a 50 inch at home..with surround sound etc, but it cant compare to the theatre

I live about 2 miles from a theater where all 16 screens are Dolby digital screens and THX sound certified and the smallest screens are still large compared to most theaters.
Every movie looks and sounds perfect, even after weeks of play (the beauty of digital delivery).
average ticket price: only $8. I can live with that.

Yep I did that once in bangkok, fucking blew me away. Then again the stand for the king picture at the start was funny too.

In the states I hate the theaters, especially in smaller cities the seats suck and the screens blow. Even Imax isn't that impressive imo

here in LA, almost every time there is some guy or girl standing outside the theater handing out invitations to private screenings of yet-to-be released movies for the purpose of reviewing/giving your opinion at the end.

its free, and you get to see a movie before anyone else... so those of you who dont want to pay, could get on board with that?

$10 adjusted for inflation is about the same, if not less, than what it cost going to a movie 20 years ago.

However, the reason many people feel current prices are too high is the movie viewing experience hasn't changed much; gotten worse...

Little to no usher service, mediocre seating / dirty floors, blurry image and/or sound (mostly a prob at older non-digital screens), and then there are the product ads (not talking the prevews, but the TV-like ads) ... that's where many folks say enough is enough ... I for one am not paying $10 or whatever to sit watching product ads, especially when the movie itself is likely already chokefull of ad placements already.

What I didn't mention above are the screengoers ... yes, many people are inconsiderate, but that alone, in my view, is not what's keeping many away, though many may say that - it's the overall, very lacking theater experience that's driving many away.

bronco67- there are some movie theaters charging upwards of $30, even $50+, per person for a dinner movie experience, often including waiter service and alcoholic beverages.

Ron

Sounds nice.. but uhm, what happens after they tuck you in all nice and cozy into the big recliner, just before the movie starts?

I saw the Dark Knight in Imax recently with a friend since he had an extra ticket and invited me, and it was very enjoyable in that format but that was the first movie I had seen in the theater since Fahrenheit 9-11. I prefer to watch most movies in the comfort of my home on my big screen tv.

I go to the movies rarely. Its just too convienent to be home comfortable. I will say that I love going to the drive in movies during the summer. Its $6 a person an extra $7 to bring in your own cooler of drinks and snacks, and its usually a double feature. The last time we went we say three movies for that price - Hancock, StepBrothers and dont mess with Zohan.

We sat out under the stars, had sandwhiches and snacks. It was great!

The regular prices down here in São Paulo are around $11.

But there are some VIP Movie Theaters that charge up to $30.

Im going to my first IMAX this month, really looking forward to it.. the closest one to me is about 200 miles.

Anyway. Movie prices. I figure the movie probably cost around $100'000'000 to make and the cinema cost around a $1'000'000 so I'm happy to spend $10 on 90 minutes of fun. I will start fights with people making noise though... can you believe some guy next to me made a phone call during Dark Knight? Bastard.

As my brother would say, it is part of the "movie theatre experience" to have some idiot talking, coughing or munching through a movie. Definitively a cultural thing and it is unavoidable by people like me that truly enjoys cinema and prefers to watch movies on the big screen, especially with "big" movies. I have a pretty sweet home theatre setup but it will never replace the big screen.

I usually just catch the first showing of the day or go to the matinee. Tickets are around U$D 3-4. Just catch a few cheap beers in a bar nearby before entering and i am all done so there is no need for the pricey snacks (well, maybe a can of ale if the mood strikes)

You cant beat watching movies at the comfort of your own home. Why spend 10-12 bucks when a movie is first released,to find out is was a crap movie and a waste of 2+ hours sitting in the theatre?
No thanks i will wait for the Dvd.

Yea, that's the funny part.

They seat you, kneeling the entire time as if you are royalty, then tuck you in with a blanket... only have to have stand to pay respect for the King in about 10 minutes. LOL

Can't have it all I guess.

What is also cool is, the seats like this are paired and surrounded by a little private wall. So you can get an HJ with no worried about people looking at you.

Me too. I find myself focusing on the chatting douches and it destroys the entire experience. Even if they shut the fuck up after I threaten to follow them home and rape their pets, it's too late, I've already been annoyed and there's no going back.

depends on the theater and movie honestly. Ive paid $15+ bucks a pop to see movies in nicer theaters in hollywood and culver city, but in all honestly, i hate going to the movies and having to deal with the people there.

i dont understand the concept of you pay $10+ to see a hour to two hour film, what possibly goes through your head that you need to talk and get up 10 times to answer your phone???
