What is the "real" religion?

I'm must be bored 'cause I'm sitting here thinking about religion.
I'm wondering what is the one true religion.
the Jews, christians, muslims, etc.. all think that their belief is the correct belief.

So who do think is right?

hell everyone maybe wrong and there's no GOD at all

Any religion that permits bukkake, anal sex, and mastubation without persecution.

Islam is the true religion. Mohammed was the last and most complete prophet. All hail Allah!

Nobody is right. All religion is a bunch of horseshit.

Religion has always been a tool of the ruling class to control the masses.

The vast majority of people who go through an NDE (Near Death Experience) come back to say that your acceptance into Heaven is based on how you treated others during your life. If you loved others, treated them with compassion, etc. then what or who you worship is moot.

Money!

I agree, religion is a tool used by man. Man created god, not the other way around. Its either a tool that those in power used to keep the masses down, or it was created by man to explain things he didnt know about.

Then again, I am kinda sorta deist, meaning if there is a god, he created everything, and it sitting back jacking off on his creation :-D

Experiments tend to prove that near-death experiences are a brain phenomenon when the the brain is dying (and in some cases is resuscitated). A researcher was allowed to put legible signs up above a ledge at the top of hospital rooms. The wording on the signs would be legible to someone high enough to look down on a body but would not be seen by someone lying in bed. None of those reporting having been floating above their bodies could report what the signs read. Like "deja vu," it's something that seems real, but isn't.

If we can accept a religion without a God, I'd possibly go for Buddhism.

The only true religion is Sixpackism.

You must worship the sixpack and must drink one every day to be accepted in Sixpack heaven.

Follow my example and you will be saved.

I'm fully aware of this, I've read many NDE stories and the scientific explanations and I believe the science. The fascinating thing though is that almost all NDE's have this "love not religion" connection. People of all different denominations come back saying this same thing as opposed to coming back saying "[insert Religion] is the one true faith". That's a very interesting phenomenon whether you believe in NDE or not.

religion is a cop out... people use it as an excuse for everything=whatever religion
example- a guy loses his job. he's having hard times. he decides to start going to church on sundays(a lifestyle change, nothing more). he changes his patterns. his life starts to get better. this guy will say it's because of religion, when he only changed his lifesyle.
interesting post... there is no 'real' religion...

I can't believe how many statements I've seen here that are predicated on an extreme lack of theological knowledge! =\

I asked myself the same question - what religion is "right" years ago and I decided to study all the ones I could find info on.

So in my studies I started finding most religions sharing a couple common elements and I started to wonder if the commonalities are where the truth lies. The concept of a God or Godforce and it being infinite. This leads one to explore exactly what the definition of infinity is...

That lead me to science and seeing where what we're learning at the cutting edge (Quantum and String Theory, etc...) would cross with old and new religious philosophies.

SO I'm not going to write a book here but instead encourage you to go on your own exploration. Don't take any one word for. Anyone who has to insist they are right over another is proving themself to be unsure of their belief lest they wouldhave no need to convince you of anything. You're sure you are human right? Do you have to go around proving it?

Good luck on your quest...

agree with this... Buddhism doesn't say you don't believe in a god though... you can be a christian and a Buddhist. Buddhism is a way of life- follow the noble paths and you'll be enlightened. i follow it more because it puts responsibility on the person, not someone or something else.

Sorry Mark, but not all of us have to become theologians to realize that ALL religions have come from mankind's desire to give meaning and purpose to his/her life.

All religion is pain relief for existential angst. Nothing more, nothing less.

As Sartre would call it, "dreadful freedom." Since there is no God to fall back on, YOU are responsible for deciding what is right and what is wrong and acting accordingly.

Just because there is no God, it doesn't follow that there are no absolutes. Ethics make no sense without absolutes (e.g., relativisic ethical nonsense).

Somehow, right and wrong seem to have SOME kind of basis that we as humans are in touch with. Is it just religion that teaches us it would be wrong to do something like putting your cigarette out in a baby's eye? Is there no difference between that and pulling a drowning person out of a river? I would say most of think there must be!

The funny thing is Jedi is as real of a belief as Christianity. The only difference is Christianity used historical events to spin it's tall tales.

Found this:

The Life-Death-Rebirth Cycle
The Afterlife:When inquiring about a religion that we are unfamiliar with one of the things that we are most interested in is the afterlife. For most Wiccans the afterlife is where we go while we digest what we have learned in our last life before we reincarnate. Our spirits are part of a cycle where we are born, we die, and we are reborn a countless number of times.
The Purpose of the Cycle:Some Wiccans similar to Buddhists believe that this process has a goal. This goal is usually to learn and develop to achieve some vision of ascension. When we have learned all that this life has to teach us we will leave the reincarnation cycle for other planes of existance.

I dont know whether to cry, or to just sit here slackjawed.

It is like watching a bunch of Jerrys Kids try to figure out how a linux box works, and images of the angry prehumans from 2001 banging at the scary black object comes to mind.

To say that most of the things said here were a gross oversimplification of an otherwise obscenely complex topic, would be and understatement.

You all need a little Joseph Campbell to ease your heads from your asses.

I am scared that some of you are allowed to breed.

I would say most of think there must be!
i don't agree with the idea of absolute right and wrong. i'm a existential post-modernist. wheeee.

but i certainly don't feel like getting into it here. don't feel like arguing for days/weeks on terms and definitions - before an argument is even started...

Atheism, quite literally, is the absence of theistic belief.

That's all.

Not really. Buddhism teaches the 4 noble truths. And one of these key "truths" is that freedom from attachments frees one from suffering. How is attachment dissolved in a person? Through renunciation--I doubt that "doing what the fuck you want" fits in with renunciation.
