Just remember "my friends" we have to transport, store, pay for at both the state/fed level and deal with legal fights of the people that don't want it, and take the risk of the already the half shut down from leaking. And I'm surprised Obama didn't bring up how long they take to build, how much they cost, and how long it takes for the people to earn a return on the tax investment.
I wish I could debate these two guys. It would be so easy.
hell yeah... you realize that we'd all be paying at tops like 15 bucks a month for as much power as we needed... that would be great... bring it
Or you could get Solar since you live in Vegas. So over the next 5 years you would pay the same amount you do now, until you pay $0 and maybe even get a buy back/credit from the electric company. Or pay $15 a month + tax to dispose of the waste in that giant toxic dump just around the corner from ya.
It will take longer to build the Nuc plant, and solar is a way better solution for 40% of America.
Many many solutions better than building Nuc plants when half are already empty and not being inspected for safety and the ones that are active aren't safe from terrorist attacks.

Yeah, my brain cracked as soon as I heard "45 nuclear plants" so I never got to the
point to even think about those obvious problems.

until they get solor panels down cheap majority of americans won't use em
im not arguing your idea or point.. I agree with it.. Ive been talking solar to my buddies for a while now.. I know a few people with backspin on the meter it's a trip to see...
thats ideal.. and will make the tree huggers happy.. only problem is tree huggers don't have 20k lying around for a good solar system..
now an idea would be to have the gov supply solar unit's to everyone rather than EBT to crack heads...
To help consumers with the DTV transition, the Government established the Digital-to-Analog Converter Box Coupon Program. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), a part of the Department of Commerce, administers this program. Every U.S. household is eligible to receive up to two coupons, worth $40 each, toward the purchase of eligible digital-to-analog converter boxes. Beginning in January of 2008, the NTIA has begun accepting applications for coupons. The coupons may only be used for eligible converter boxes sold at participating consumer electronics retailers, and the coupons must be used at the time of purchase. (Please note that these coupons will expire 90 days after mailing). Manufacturers estimate that digital-to-analog converter boxes will sell from $40 to $70 each. This is a one-time cost. For more information on the Digital-to-Analog Converter Box Coupon Program, visit www.dtv2009.gov, or call 1-888-388-2009 (voice) or 1-877-530-2634 (TTY).

It costs as much as a big screen and the amount of your electric bill is currently each month and that may include a buy back. You pay it out over 5 years, and you own it when you are down. It increase the value of your home and gives you several state and federal tax breaks. You can also get buy backs and credits from the electric company, depending on the city, enough to power pools, hot tubs, plant rooms, ect.
The technology is also getting cheaper and getting much more advanced. Using live organisms that produce use the sun to produce massive amounts of energy using very little surface space.
So don't buy into the BS, it may be a little more expensive now, but if we invest time, money, and focus into tons of alternate solutions now, we never know what will be produced or how cheap it will be.
Or we can know what the future holds, and that is more expensive energy costs for everyone, and that's a fact nobody can talk down. Going out to hunt and drill for Oil now will not produce Oil tomorrow, next week or next year and it will never replace what we consume.
We should just focus totally on new technology, new resources, all money, tax cuts, everything. Make it the wild wild west of a new free market, think of how much money we could all make.

I did not know they were that cheap now a days for a good one

For the average person, it prob is still to expensive. But if we started investing/buying them, the price would drop, the average person could purchase them then, States could buy in massive bulk, maybe poor areas that have to power the house through a nickel box, can get them for super cheap or even free.
NY State, highest state for taxes. The West part of the state pays as much as NY City. Anyway, part of the West area, had a chance to put wind mills up. This would allowed them to not have to pay state tax anymore. Saving them $1000's a year into the $10000k+ range for a 5k+ sq foot home! Nope they didn't take it.
People are stupid, this Country needs to be forced into this change, straight up kicked in the head, in the ass, and down the street until everyone finally wakes up and starts to flip to all types of different alternate sources.
Since you live in Vegas you are already being exposed to radiation levels (from the Sun) much, much higher than any nuclear power plant.
Nuclear is impressive in its ability to produce the next generation of power for mankind, but it is far more impressive in the ignorance that surrounds it.

Impressive is hydro/wind currents, cheap, non stop, multi production generators that can be put in back rifts where boats can not go.
It's not the next generation, it produces a waste that is far more toxic than anything cars put out. It is expensive, it has had problems, and several sit un-used today.

Where is your source for this?
The Gov has stated it directly, and every related org and several news papers and online publications. It's not a secret.
The U.S. Already is the largest users of Nuc power. When a power plant is used after a long enough time, it fills up with waste. Which is where and why Yucca Mountain came around.
Lots of people will have trained in nuc waste going right near the areas they live. Add more and more power stations, and you have more and more disasters waiting to happen.
The Industry gives the Gov money to dispose of the waste, do you really trust them to do it correctly, forever, for your kids, grandkids, ect sakes?
It would be a good idea if you could trust the plant "maintenance man" . We hire the cheapest labor we can for everything and treat them like SHIT. Look around ...
If you knew how they have been treating the Air Traffic Controllers for the past 8 years you would never fly again.
104 Active Nuclear Power plants in the US. produce 20% of the gross power.
(France generates 77% of its gross power from Nuclear).
Nuclear Power produces 66% less Co2 emissions than Natural Gas.
All the Nuclear waste from decades of US NUclear Power production at current levels would produce enough waste to fill ONE FOOTBALL field 20 feet high. Currently all the waste is stored on site at each facility.
______
Wind power produces the cheapest source of power - but is unreliable since the wind forces can be unpredictable and since there is no way to store excess power for use in low production times... the power companies must keep other power sources online to backup the wind sources.
...............
The ultimate solution would be a combined program of wind & nuclear.
Cheapest and cleanest.
Was a graphics master for Lensman @ Adult.com but now... I can't tell ya cause it aint top secret.
