Bob Barr loses battle in Texas to keep McCain and Obama off the ballot
If you remember a little while back there was a story posted on here about how Bob Barr and the Libertarian party had filed a suit in Texas to keep Obama and McCain off the ballot because both had missed the deadline for filing to get on the Texas ballot. Today the state supreme court of Texas ruled against bar and said it would not enforce the laws. Barr is correct when he says that smaller parties are always held to a higher standard. If he had missed the deadline he most likely would not have been allowed on the ballot, but the major parties can do as they please regardless of what the law says.
It's too bad. It would have been interesting to see how many write in votes McCain and Obama would have gotten in Texas. If Barr actually had won Texas it would have handed the election to Obama and I think that is one of reasons the court ruled the way it did. Here is the full story. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont....a4c90d35.html |
