Way back in the days of Randy Rhoads, Ozzy played a concert for (or sponsored by) some British radio program called something like The King Biscuit Flower Hour or some crazy shit like that. The solo by RR, captured in that concert, on "Over the Mountain," in my opinion, is the most unbelievable solo in the history of the guitar (yes, I heard it back in the day -- I am THAT old).

If anyone can find it it's a guitarists wet dream :2 cents:

Please dont try and convince these guys Randy Rhoads was even good LOL I am sure he wll be lumped into the "he plays too fast" crowd

If its not on some 70s radio station that plays Zeppelin all damn day, they cant "hum" along to it... people like Randy blow away all this stuff, classic rock solos cant even compare

just because its too fast for them, they dont feel it has "emotion" etc...

as been said, guitarists may know it, but if the general population cant "air guitar" alongside it, its not "solo" enough or somethin

:disgust

He does more than anything Hendrix or Clapton could dream of, and just when you think he is fast, he saves the speed for last.

He has dexterity that no "classic" guitarist could ever dream of.

Look at that video above and tell me you are not in total AWE.

Yes hes fast but his music sounds like nothing but fast scales, when others Like Stevie ray Vaughn, Clapton are also fast but more than fast there rifs have soul and rythem:2 cents::thumbsup

i agree but the Zepplin crowd says:

"plays too fast"

i get chills too on that one, beautiful... the people who cant feel the emotion in that are the ones who have no emotion

Agent 488 09-19-2008 10:20 AM

a solo should sing.

Chauncy 09-19-2008 10:21 AM

to many great guitar solos to pick one but I do know my favorite bass solo is Jay Bentley's (Bad Religion) on turn of the light

That's not emotion, that's cocaine and screaming.

Fletch XXX 09-19-2008 10:25 AM

that Dimebag solo is full of emotion, it does not take a musicologist to see that.

dready 09-19-2008 10:25 AM

Shine on You Crazy Diamond comes to mind for some reason.

Fletch XXX 09-19-2008 10:35 AM

I guess not many of you will even know him, so he will be automatically disqualified, but Danny Gatton is one of my favorite guitar players. (dead)

https://youtube.com/watch?v=RyjtW-rvWoQ

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Gatton

prolly too fast for you guys too.

Id also name Gary Moore from Thin Lizzy, but again, you guys need the solo slow to have emotion...

Still got the blues solo

https://youtube.com/watch?v=OtMNx4wUSC0

Gary Moore and Danny Gatton never getr the mentions, but they have ALL THE TALENT, but they play fast so... well ..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Moore

NickPapageorgio 09-19-2008 10:35 AM

Seriously, I would give one of my testicles to science to have the ability to go back in time and see that show in Moscow live. Amazing performance, amazing crowd.

NickPapageorgio 09-19-2008 10:37 AM

And I mean, if we want to really piss off the people who hate the speed, I could always post a little of this: https://youtube.com/watch?v=A6z6aRuMjvA

:1orglaugh

I love these guys. They broke up tho. :(

NickPapageorgio 09-19-2008 10:40 AM

Then ofcourse, a bass is a guitar too right? https://youtube.com/watch?v=nvEhy...eature=related

i like when he looks at the camera and doesnt miss a lick, very nice.

people think Megadeth or Pantera is fast they have no clue LOL

WarChild 09-19-2008 10:44 AM

I'd the best Solo is probably WarChild playing Guitar Hero III on PS3, Slipknot "Before I Forget".

That guys is so dreamy.

SykkBoy 09-19-2008 11:10 AM

Jeff Hanneman's first solo in "Angel Of Death"

sweetredhead 09-19-2008 11:12 AM

Heh... I'm listening to the Danny Gatton CD "In Concert 9/9/94" as I type this. What an amazing talent that guy was, and what a shame his suicide was. Just one of a great many incredible artists that were also tortured souls, I guess.
