Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I've had a few good companies approach me, I'll keep you all posted! I was a bit unsure about coming forth with Ryan being autistic, but I'm happy I did. I'm so proud of my little Ryan. He's a little genius and I feel very blessed. I also appreciate the support and kind emails/ICQ's from you guys! :angel

good luck with the job seeking :thumbsup

According to Wikipedia, 6 per 1,000 people, with about four times as many boys as girls, have autism. It's been on the rise since the 1980s and a lot of people seem to think it's because of the shots most of us get as kids.

I had a girlfriend when I was in high school who had autism - a very bad case of it. He never learned how to speak, and would only grunt. At any given moment he could go off on a tantrum where he would beat himself for no reason. At night he was tied down to his bed so he wouldn't hurt himself in his sleep. What a horrible disease.

Sorry to hear about your son FB, and good luck finding a job.

Octopus 01-12-2009 01:12 PM

Bump for you. Good Luck!!!

Sarah_Jayne 01-12-2009 01:30 PM

Best of luck :) My cousin, also named Ryan, is also autistic. He is now 11 years old and is challenging but lovely. He spends nearly every day with my grandmother after school and I don't think he would be nearly as well along if he didn't have somebody home when he needed them.

I got into this line of work to look after my disabled husband. It is exactly why this kind of job is so good for those situations.

Zayne E. 01-12-2009 03:02 PM

My son (whom I have custody of...yes...a single dad!) has Autism...but i think I mentioned that already.

Keep your chin up FB...there is hope. My son is improving dramatically with changes to his diet and some therapies he is getting through the public school system (believe it or not).

papill0n 01-12-2009 03:54 PM

Best of luck Steph. I am sure you and chris are awesome parents :D

Chances are you knew a lot more than that, but no one knew it.
Even now many cases go undiagnosed.

Ever have a "special ed" classroom in your school? Some class with "special" kids in it that were just slow, bad at socializing.... what ever?

People still don't know much about autism, back then most people didn't even know it existed. They just knew that something "wasn't right" with some people.

So in short, it's not new that so many people have it. It's just new that we're able to recognize it and name it.

Funbrunette 01-12-2009 04:22 PM

Thanks peeps! :upsidedow I wouldn't have it any other way Ryan is a spectacular young boy!

I'm curious if hiring someone (who's son is autistic) would have any implications to a companies health care plan. For instance, would the employer have 2 personally deal with paying for the no-doubt hugely expensive testing/care associated with such a condition.

Here's hoping Obama comes through with national health care, so you can get your son the quality care he no doubt deserves!

NetwErk GUrl 01-13-2009 07:07 PM

Bump for good opportunities.

Dagwolf 01-13-2009 07:08 PM

Opportunity never knocks twice. Sometimes I hope it'll break in through a back window though.

Take care and give a kiss to the little munchkin!

Meeper 01-15-2009 01:13 PM

Here's a bump for you! Good luck in your search.

czarina 01-15-2009 01:22 PM

hey sweetie! Sorry to hear about your little guy's condition. You're making the right move by staying at home and spending as much time as possible to him.

Just one word of wisdom from a stay-at-home-while-working-in-porn mom: it's usually more difficult for your kid to have you at home yet unavailable, than to know that you're away at work. It causes them a lot of stress when you keep telling them "one moment, I'm on the phone", etc. So if you can get a night time job, where you can work while he sleeps, it'd be the best for him. Just my 2 cents.

Ethersync 01-15-2009 01:23 PM

I hope you can find a job soon. Good luck!
