"IN A SURPRISE move set to rock the Internet?s world, social notworking has apparently knocked pornography off its sticky throne, in what people search for most online. According to 'data geek', Bill Tancer, top boffin at Internet tracking company Hitwise, people are no longer coming to the net in search of adult stimulation. In fact, searches for porn have shriveled to only 10 per cent, going down from 20 per cent ten years ago. In other words, porn has been well and truly shafted. Or, the Internet porn industry is well and truly screwed. Or? [enough! ? Ed] Social not-working, on the other hand, has seen a real spurt of growth and is becoming increasingly hot. "As social networking traffic has increased, visits to porn sites have decreased," Tancer noted, indicating a change in position by the 18-24 year old cyber market. "Young users spend so much time on social networks that they don't have time to look at adult sites", he added. Tancer?s hands-on research meant he had to sift his way through information from over 10 million web users. His findings are now being compiled into a book called Click: What Millions of People are Doing Online and Why It Matters. Aside from the revelation that we are social, rather than sexual animals when it comes to our cyber pastimes, Tancer also discovered from his data delving that elbows, belly button lint and ceiling fans all freaked people out almost as much as social intimacy and rejection" http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquir...edestal-social |

If it wasn't for social networking sites.. the internet would not have 1/4 of the traffic it has today..

You guys would be cleaning up if you didn't give the goods away for free... In less than 10 years it went from being made fun of for chatting on the internet to being mandatory to chat on the internet.. |

This is flawed in many ways.

	1. Many surfers have either bookmarked or memorized the URLs to their favorite sites that they like to go to over the years. 2. Or maybe we are selling more porn? And surfers are going directly to their favorite site(s) they buy subscriptions to. 3. It's not like people have to use search engines to find porn, especially in present times. You can easily jump through 20 different porn sites and between multiple niches in a short amount of time, without visiting a search engine. "Internet searches give an up-to-date view of society is changing" - That's a dramatically inaccurate statement. We can see that measuring an industry based on 'search' statistics is not an accurate indicator of the state of any industry, especially online adult. |

Regardless what any tracking companies may say: Porn was the reason the internet became what it is today and it will always be an essential part. Searches may be lower, usage isn't. People drink, people eat, people wank off to porn, it's like prostitution...a business that experiences huge changes over time, but never dies. It's hardcoded in the male brain.

I don't think people are going to porn sites any less. Just more people are coming online that are online to do other things. Back in the day there wasn't much else besides shitty home pages, amazon and porn. Things are different now.

Like Deejne said and I mentioned in another thread, this only says that PORN SEARCHES are down, not PORN VIEWING. Based the Alexa rank and the meteoric traffic rises of these tube sites, I'd say porn viewing by the masses is at an all time high.
