    Anyone Here Live In France?

We had planned on going to Cyprus next but France might be on the agenda. My Father's almost 80 and wants to live there before he pops his clogs. I want to see as much of him before he does, so I'm probably going to tag along. My Father can speak French fluently but I only know the odd word (though I'm learning).

    To my question...

Is there an area of France where I could get by with little French? I don't want to put on my dad to translate all the time for me. I'm thinking about having to deal with estate agents, getting phone connected, isps, utility, etc. Am I dreaming thinking I can manage without speaking french? If not, whats the best area for me to consider?

I spent a lot of time in Paris and I didn't speak one word of french. I managed with Pardon, Merci, Bon Jour/Swa ... . Asking people if they spoke english was always a bad idea

French people don't like to speak English even if they know how to. Your best shot is South of France where there are quite a few foreigners living. St Tropez, Cannes, Nice etc.

Yeah South is best. In paris people get PISSED if you are the ignorant Amerikkan type.

Thanks guys. I'll check out the south.

If anyone lives in the south, let me know about areas and such.
