There are still about 2 million customers without power here in Houston.

First priority is restoring power to hospitals and other essential services. Next is getting power back on Galveston Island. THEN, residential service.

Large numbers of utility crews are arriving from all over the US, so much of this work will be taking place simultaneously. BUT, it's a huge task and they've not even completed a full assessment of the damage yet.

Bottom line, we could be without power for two or three weeks.

P.S. I'm online via generator power. It's kinda like camping out in your own house.

I've been checking on that myself today as I have a flight out of Hobby to Atlanta on Thur morning.

That last word I've seen is that both Hobby and Bush Intercontinetal are supposed to resume operation tomorrow (Monday) with limited service. Nearly all reports I've seen instructed to call your airline for more information, which is what I plan to do tomorrow.

Hobby had minor damage, and were on generator power. Bush Intercontinental has extensive damage in at least two terminals and damage to the underground trolly that runs between the terminals.

It typically doesn't take 2 to 3 weeks for the bulk of the customers.. They always say that around here too after a bad hurricane but power is always back within a few days, I've personally never been with out power for longer than 3 days maybe 4 days after a hurricane.

It tends to be the people in the out of the way places that get stuck with out power for the extended amount of times.

I'm NW Houston and we have it Thank Jeebus.

When the street lights came up.. our neighborhood came up..
But the swank neighborhoods around us.. and the older ones.. still don't have it.

So we're blessed. God is blessing my lil porn loving house.

But most everyone is out.. or flooding.
It's ALOT worse than mainstream media is reporting for some reason.
They're not exploiting this NEAR as much as katrina.

Yea I would expect that there because there was much more damage, but I'd be surprised if power is still out for more than a week in the majority of Houston.. One thing I will say is those power guys work fast after these disasters. They will send in guys and trucks from all over the country.

Typically when ever a storm hits here in Florida there are FPL trucks brought in before the storm and they ride it out and are out working soon as it's past. At least thats the way FPL works, I will say they have their shit together when it comes to getting things back up and running.
