OBAMA Celebrity Supporters Helping or NOT?

The more and more I think about it, it seems like it doesn't help when celebrities start backing up a candidate. If you look back 4 years ago, every celebrity and their mothers who spoke out were behind Kerry 100% and he still ended up losing the race.

    What do you think?

I think Rosie Odonnell and Alex Baldwin REALLY need to get out there and express their opinion on this election.

I think it depends on a variety of factors. The celebrity and how they're perceived, what they say and whether it sounds like an informed opinion or an impassioned crusade all feed into it.

When Madonna speaks out it's usually over the top and she requests private audiences with them (as she did with Wesley Clark a few years back). People can not relate to her and I think her history of shenanigans, while great for her career as a pop icon, damage her credibility in the "to be taken seriously" arena.

Same with celebs like Barbara Streisand and Alec Baldwin who make outlandish statements and launch ad hominem attacks without being perceived as politicos by the public.

It's the celebrities that have been around a while and have exhibited some form of restraint and critical thought that have a chance to do the most good for their cause. I saw the Matt Damon remarks on Palin a few days ago. He didn't go looking for a stage, but was asked during the course of an interview and gave what I thought was a well thought out opinion.

Doubt it will sway anyone, but he didn't come off as a kook.

I definitely don't think that celebrity "activists" talking have much bearing on the race... they just contribute to global warming emitting so much CO from their mouths... but I certainly don't think they hurt the cause since they probably raise gobs of money for Obama. There are quite a few right wing celebs too that like to run their mouths... like Fred Thompson and his crew.

Btw... McCain is quickly becoming the greatest asset to the Obama campaign...

The answer is this... celebs should not have any influence over the American population as far as influencing their vote with any candidate for anything?

? but as this polls are starting to show? A great deal of Americans are nowhere near as intelligent as I have given them credit for.

If we elect Mccaine and Palin? the world has my permission to do to us as they please? at that point we would deserve it

You know Fred Thompson was a VERY good Senator for longer than Obama has been right? He isn't just that actor guy.

I agree with you, celebrities like Pamela Anderson and Madonna that are perceived as icons have 0 credibility when it comes to politics.
