;) In my opinion, they have wasted $3k advertising on GFY, and God knows how much paying a programmer to write that piece of tripe. Fight Geek with Geek :) |
I see a way to use this amazing technology that will change the way we live better then segway:)

I've got an htaccess file in the www.gibhar.com root as follows: Quote:
ie, all hits to www.gibhar.com from that IP get sent to the other URL. On that URL, there is javascript to replace the image with my own image. I've not seen their other 'features' like exit traffic stealing, but i'm pretty sure it would be possible to write Javascript to counter it. Bottom line is you can either redirect all requests from Xites to another URL, or you can 'steal' their banner/features with your own. |

But this Xites thing is seriously fucked up. Altering the content of someone else's website is just fucked up, whether it's done via proxy or not. You're basically taking a site's adspace and using it for your own advantage, without giving the webmaster a dime. No way in hell this shit is legal. Also, this thing makes many sites simply <i>unuseable</i>. For example: http://www.xites.com/i?sssid=18&h=ww...soft.com&url=/ Click on any link, and you'll get microsoft's custom 404 page. Totally fucked up. So, not only does it insert banners onto other people's websites, it essentially makes them unuseable in the way they were intended. Fuck this program. Fuck the people that started it. One can only hope you get sued ASAP. |
actually the owner of this program is a close personal friend of mine and he's one smart, straight shooting mofo... kudos bro
|
Kman, good to see you stick up to your friends. But do not kid yourself, it will not last. I am sure someone is already working on ways of protecting sites from it, and FTC may have something to say as well.
But who knows, Kman may be working for his friend next! |

"New Terms Of Service Addition to ARS The site "xites.com" was brought to my attention last week by a concerned webmaster. Upon checking this site, it appears that by using this program, it will begin a session on the surfer?s browser that could place a banner at the top of every subsequent page that the surfer goes to after the session begins. It can also change links on the followed pages as well as referral codes. ARS WILL NOT accept traffic / signups that are generated using this program / method and/or by altering in any way the html code of other websites without the owner of that site?s cooperation. If you do this, your account(s) will be terminated. Please review the terms of service, as they have been changed to incorporate the above restrictions." :thumbsup |
They are just using php to parse the all links on the google page. If you go to the first link on the demo where the banner is "sticky" you can see by rolling over all the links on page (when you think you're on google) and see its going thruogh the php script.
I could write that script a day. It makes people think they are hijacking spots on remote sites when its really just acting like a web browser. Just view source and you'll see what I mean. |
