I know in certain areas of ebay specially among certain hobbies that many people will post a "I am buying this bid" to alert the others in a pretty small circle of common bidders. Sort of like pissing on a tree. Means crap to anyone else.
Often they place their minimum bid early on in the auction yet at same time they place their full bid which is much higher and they typically will not go over that price regardless. So snipers mean jack shit in reality.
