Seriously though, if I was going to move out of the UK to another country I would aim for Canada. Firstly, your UK pension is frozen but you can claim it there, they have an NHS so that won't be a total shock even if it is different. It is different enough to have a new country smell but British enough for you not to feel totally out of it. However, I think they still have the point system for immigration so you would need to figure out how you sat with that. Also, depending on where you went you would have to get used to the difference in winter weather but I have thought of moving there a few times over the years.

Britain is a very nice place, but the English made it this overpopulated, overpriced shithole, inhabited by a minority of liberal aristocratic snobs, and a mass of idiots, descendants of slaves and criminals, like the USA today. :)

Canada. Very very British friendly, a lot like home... easy going. Problem is a high tax rate.

I thought taxes are 15-20% for companies in Canada.

Why would that be?

I know if I was picking a random nice place to live, the country with the most creatures and fauna that could kill me would not jump right to the top of it without a very good reason.

We put the creatures here to scare people away like a large "Beware of the Dog" sign. Steve Irwin was actually our Minister for Immigration, the sting ray was just a cover story for his retirement. He actually lives in wollongong now as a tax accountant, it's safe there because no one gives a shit about it so the whole city is incognito.

I love the UK, sure it's expensive but it's better than most places in and around the world.

I'd change the weather if i could (it's raining...AGAIN!)

raven1083 09-09-2008 12:52 AM

You know, it rains but we don't usually get any extreme weather. We get rain like a place like Seattle does. I grew up with blizzards..we barely ever get snow here. We don't have to worry about earthquakes except for the odd freak one now and then and they are always very small and more like jokes. Hurricanes and tornadoes are very rare. It gets warm and we feel it is hot because few of us have air conditioning but it very rarely gets cripplingly hot. I like UK weather.

Yes... the UK SUCKS!

Yeah, you win. But I never wanted to be this close to Exeter to be honest. Shit I'm too close to Bridgwater as well..

I like living in England and to believe it to be a cool place, but at the same time there are nicer places to live and work. I'd probably choose the BVI, I've visited loads as a kid and have always wanted to go back as an adult. Warm, not too expensive, close to the US if I want a visit and close enough to the UK so I don't have to sit on a flight too long to come home..

Im heading over to Tenerife early next year. Parts of it are almost identical to the UK (Drunken louts, slutty girls and overpriced beer) but you get the added bonus of year round sunshine, a handful of hot ass spanish girls and you can rent a hillside villa with private pool for the same price a ground floor 1 bed flat would cost in the UK.

Plus only 4 hours flying time away from home.

Can't go wrong with Tenerife. Think taxes are less there too

kesha1 09-09-2008 03:23 AM

Where is Tenerife?

Spanish island near Africa.

I would prefer Ibiza or Mallorca, they look more safe than regular Spanish vacation locations(because of ETA).

ETA let off small bombs and give warnings, it's just as easy to bomb Ibiza.

They usually bomb Cantabria just to piss off their rightwing backward god loving neigbouring province.

james_clickmemedia 09-19-2008 08:19 AM

Left the UK 10+ years ago and would not live there again...
Every place has advantages and disadvantages, living in the US is not great all the time either..
