BIG DILEMMA: OPRAH BALKS AT HOSTING SARAH PALIN; STAFF DIVIDED
Fri Sep 05 2008 08:55:46 ET

Oprah Winfrey may have introduced Democrat Barack Obama to the women of America -- but the talkshow queen is not rushing to embrace the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket!

Oprah's staff is sharply divided on the merits of booking Sarah Palin, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

"Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on," an insider explains. "Oprah's website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama."

One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash!

It is not clear if Oprah has softened her position after watching Palin's historic convention speech.

Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, timed to a promotional tour of his autobiography.

Oprah and executive producer Sheri Salata, who has contributed thousands of dollars to Obama's campaign, refused requests for comment.

What does any of this have to do with black or white?

I wouldn't have a prolife, hypocrite on my show either.. if it's something I didn't want to do.

It has zero to do with black and white.. and has to do with her fucked up stance on issues.

'Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over,' Winfrey says in statement.

OPRAH'S STATEMENT: "The item in today's Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over." - http://www.drudgereport.com/flash3os.htm

No agenda there I guess. At least she doesn't try to hide it.

I would think her sponsors would be pissed considering her speech at the RNC had 2 million more viewers than Obama's.

Honestly, I think Oprah would make a better president than either of the current candidates. No one's going to buy her because that bitch has more money than god.

That "show" is a business you know.

And how do you give a "fair" interview without ripping into Palin about promoting
abstinence as the only sex education and it failed on her own daughter.

Not really that good of an idea for Oprah, she either has to ignore all the negative
buzz during the interview and look like a phony or bring the issues up and look like
an attacker.

You also probably should remember that Ophra's show is in Chicago!
She knew about Obama for a long time. He's an illinois senator.
Good local promo for Oprah to have Obama on but I don't think she
is going to sweat all those billions of Alaska viewers.

Chicago city population is about five times larger than the entire state of Alaska.

BTW : I'm sick of Ophrah too. But I don't make stuff up to make my point.

Yes she does. Her speech viewership at RNC was just over a million shy of Obama's.

http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/...ratings-spike/

Palin was watched by 37.2 million viewers, Obama 38 million.

People tuned in that night to listen to multiple speakers and to see
McCain accept the nomination.

Saying Palin drew in those viewers is like the opening card of a Tyson fight
claiming he drew the huge crowd.

She rode the crowd, she didn't draw it.

it's her show and she can do what ever she wants.

And I really don't think Oprah is going anywhere with the amount of supporters she's got.

But hey it is GFY and you guys love to bitch about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING at the same time.

She was the sole reason in drawing the crowd. It's the very reason that she was selected as VP. Her speech was a historic event and that's why it was watched by so many.

Are you trying to pass lies and stupidity on GFY?

1) Palin pulled in more views than Biden. Which is logical because nobody knew who the hell Palin was or still is. I have known about Biden for a long time, like post people that follow politics. She did not pull more views than Obama.

2) You have no idea who is more popular to Oprah. You assume so, until Oprah starts to ask hard questions, about teen pregnancy, that will piss off half the stupid women that already planned on voting for McCain anyway. Your logic is so flawed.

3) Really business wise? Again, a lie. Most major U.S. Corps have already thrown support to Obama, they are ready for change so they can get back into the money loops that this Pres cut them out from.

Anymore bullshit you would like to spew?

I'd love to see Palin on Oprah. They're both religious kooks with polar opposite agendas, and believe God serves those agendas.

Please tell me where you get this information from? I dont understand how all of a sudden a person who was relatively unknown is now more popular than a man who pulled 200,000 people in europe for a speech. Please let me know how you think that Palin could even come close to this.

As a non-American I just really hope that Obama wins. Not that I care about Obama but you see what has happened in the world with the Republicans in power over the Democrats.

So if Oprah's censorship of the republicans takes the democrats to victory and the world can go back to normal I am all for it.

Anymore bullshit you would like to spew?
oprahs viewers are middle aged white women

business wise, palin would be a perfect choice to have on her show because of the RATINGS

Well, considering Obama has had 4 years to become known internationally, and Palin has had a week, I would think it is a pretty safe bet that the Republicans may have stumbled onto something.

Quote:
(ST. PAUL) Sarah Palin was unknown to the public just a week ago, but it's going to be hard to say that about her anymore. The ratings from her speech at the Republican National Convention are in, and it's now clear just how all the buzz about her translated big time into viewership for the Republican convention.

According to Nielsen, 37.2 million people watched the speech on six networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX News Channel, and MSNBC). That is just 1.1 million less than watched Obama's speech last Thursday night. Compare that to the estimated 24 million who watched Democratic VP nominee Joe Biden's speech last Wednesday night. You can also compare that to the about 34 million who watched the opening of the Beijing Olympics last month, 32 million who watched this year's Oscars and 31.7 million who watched last spring's American Idol finale.

According to Nielsen, Palin also attracted 19.5 million women, which is 4.9 million more than watched Biden. And 1.4 million Hispanic viewers watched, which is more than the 1.2 million who watched day 3 of the Democratic convention, even though Univision and Telemundo did not carry Palin's speech last night. In fact, it's also of note that Palin's speech was carried by four less networks than Obama's speech (BET and TV One also showed Obama).

The women she will piss off are the people that will already vote for McCain, everyone else could give a shit less.

Ratings isn't always about getting viewers. She may get people to watch, but if she asks the wrong questions, she may piss off more people than she makes happy. If that was the case her ratings would go down.

So, if it's about ratings, she would avoid Palin. Now if she asks for Bidin to come on and not Palin, that's fucked. But Palin isn't running for President and Obama is. Maybe that is the difference? McCain should ask to go on Oprah.
