You do get what you pay for when it comes to design (and everything else in life). The complaint earlier, that the good designers charge more when they realize they can make more, says it all. Good designers cost more, end of story.
Just because you continuously sucker kids out of art school, or third party off shore hacks, doesn't mean you are getting a good deal. It just means you are cheap.
You are saying you want great designs to grab your customer's attention, to convert them, to make you more money... but you don't want to spend good money on good designers...
It takes money to make money. Spend the money to make a GREAT product, not a mediocre one and you will make more in the long run.Comment

I charge $150 / ?100 an hour for my design time, so they represent less than a half an hour's worth of work for me, which is about right. Would probably take less than a half an hour to browse fonts and make up a sheet of logos like that.Comment

But to be fair, even though Jon is a fucking horrible designer, he was a nice guy throughout. Obviously if you come to GFY and you're too nice people go crazy about it, but one on one, he is a nice guy. That being said, on the board he is a fucking douche and that is why I started this thread. And he's a bad designer

Look around at the best this (or any) industry has to offer, then take a look at what you've got. You don't have good results, you have mediocrity. The good shit costs money.
