Google + Yahoo = Awesome

Anyone else seeing an increase in search engine traffic as a result of Yahoo using the best engine in the world to influence its results?

Yeah, I guess all you freebie fuckers got a thrill out of the "merger" there. When you have 100's of paid sites, it kinda sucks though.

It's nice for people listed in google, but unfair for those that paid for inclusions at Yahoo. I wonder if people will pay to be listed ever again.

Hopefully this will fuck them for a while with paid inclusions.

I have a few site in the Yahoo directory from when it was free.

Also I noticed that they aren't using the same algo that google is. They are using the link pop of old algo which is doing very well for me :D

From what I've heard, most people were royally screwed the second their $600 left their account. I think it's a good movement for Yahoo, and surfers around the world. I'm sorry to hear that it didn't pan out well for you.

I agree it was probably a good move in terms of keeping eyeballs from surfers. Was it a good business decision? I tend to disagree. They basically are saying we're abandoning the $600/inclusion model (not directly, but whose gonna pay it now), and are banking on PPC revenue from sponsored links from overture. So, to sum it up, it seems Yahoo is no longer a search engine but a starting portal and they are doing whatever it takes to retain eyeballs. A real shame since they just shot a revenue stream away.

I'm in no way big potatoes to their sales revenue, but I had over 100 listings in Yahoo which has lost over 70% of traffic because of this move. Think I'll renew a single listing? Think again Yahoo...

Yahoo's financials from last quarter stated that 60% of their revenue came from paid listings. I wonder how they plan to keep that up?

If yahoo was smart they would have kept it they way it was & accepted that they cant compete with google... and let google be the best search engine and instead focus on there portal stuff. And be #1 in that.
DUMB DUMB Move by them. It will be interesting to see what they do when there stock tumbles after profits decrese.

Probably Overture's paid listings dominated that 60%. There's only so much you can make for $600/listing. It does make more financial sense to charge per click when you have the volume of Yahoo. Just a shame they screwed us like this, I think the combination of the two was best since paid listings dominated all listings essentially.

A shame for Yahoo...

If google starts using the yahoo directory instead of the ODP, the Yahoo revenues will skyrocket. If.

I wish too, but they'll never do it. We both know Yahoo is in it for the money and will list pretty much anyone who can pay the $600 fee. DMOZ is not money driven and is supposedly more ethical.

Still, I wish your case would happen

Google has been all about making the best SE for the surfer, not making the most money. So their search results are better. It's that simple. So, I'm glad that yahoo is now starting to use google. Their technology is far superior than that of any other engine.
