Those looks like dust spots from scanning slides. I bet those pics were shot on slide film and then scanned (digitized).

The assistant is doing fine, you HAVE to look where you are pointing the light. The photographer, who can't frame for shit, and who ever did the awful retouching are the only fucktards contributing to that photo.

First fault goes to the photog for taking the shot with the light holder in the shot. Second goes to who ever goes through to check, edit, and pick pictures from shoots for sets. Then third would be the person who added it into the FHG as well.

Sorry, it's obvious from those pictures the light guy was more dynamic than static and was moving the light to different angles through out the shoot. It's not his fault he was in that particular shot. He can't see down the hall, through the view finder, to see the angle the photog is shooting at has in him in the screen.

If a stand costs $150.00 and a 18yr old dope from craigslist will work for free to see pretty girls. You must conclude that the assistant is worth less than the cost of an actual stand.

In this case you get what you paid for.

However, I do agree with you that's bad framing.

I was working with a photographer a month ago that was crazy about seeing bad framing. Then a week ago he posted the worst shit I've ever seen him shoot. The images were blurry and cropped at the knee. So I guess it doesn't matter who shoots it, even the most anal retentive people fuck up sometimes.

The point of him holding the light is because he needs to constantly keep changing where it is pointing, it is probably an ass light or a hair light, and the model is continually moving, you really would use a stand and walk over there every fucking shot and re-aim the light?

Assistants usually know more about lighting than the photographer, it's their job to. I know several Playboy photogs who would be up shit creek without a paddle if it were not for their assistant setting up the lighting for them.
