Fact: Republicans of today wouldnt vote for reagan

He approved of the minimum drinking age act which is causing drinking age debate today.

he favored abortion before opposing it.

As the governor of California, Reagan signed a 1967 law that allowed abortions in the state six years before the Supreme Court legalized them nationwide.
he also liked to raise taxes,

"If Reagan were running today," Huckabee said this week, "the Club for Growth would be running ads against him because he raised taxes by a billion when he was governor of California."

Indeed, Reagan did sign a billion-dollar tax increase while he was governor in 1967. As president, he also signed several tax increases that offset some of his historic 1981 cut in federal income taxes.
    he also talked about aliens.

In 1988, President Ronald Reagan addressed the General Assembly of the United Nations. The speech has become known as his famous Disarmament speech.

In this address, he postulated upon his "fantasy" of an alien species, from outside this world, invading Earth. Reagan thought that this would unite all humanity and tear down national borders. He also said that an alien force is already amongst us. Hear the audio portion of this speech above.
I believe reagan would not get elected by the republicans of today.

And to those who want to lower the drinking age, you can blame Reagan for that one.

I find it crazy that Conservative Republicans associate themselves with Reagan, at all. Let alone even think about voting for the guy today.

Some of the largest tax increases this country ever had during peacetime were during Reagan. With the debut this country has no matter who is president taxes are going up. You cant lower taxes during wartime it doesnt work

If Barry Goldwater were running for office today he would have to be an independent, because he was nowhere near conservative enough for today's right wing.

This is a good thing for those of us who oppose most of those conservative principles though....because the republicans have screwed up so badly that the democrats are going to have big working majorities in both chambers of congress, and likely the white house, for many many years to come.
