    Does Israel compete in the Olympics?

    Oh, and are there any native Israeli sports?

    No, I don't mean like "Whack a Palestinian Girl with a Tank" sort of thing. I was thinking of something that required athletics.

                  I think any country with such a small population wouldn't do well in the Olympics...small talent pool...China has a billion+ people...bound to get some really athletic people in that pool...

                      Jamaica did quite well... I think it has to do more with national goals and also available training. The United States has a very good training system, for example... if it was all about population, China should have gotten three times as much as the United States or the United States should have gotten three times less then China.

                                                  A good example would be pretty much any oil rich arab nation. Can even a single one produce the equipment needed to extract oil? Do they or can they manufacture anything? And as far as medical and science contributions .. Well you know the story there. Nothing in that department for some, what, 1000+ years?

It's what the people do with the money that makes the difference. Israel takes billions, builds a modern civilized, high-tech society from nothing while defending itself from several surrounding hostile countries. Africa takes billions and comes up with wars, genocides, starvation and cities filled with poverty and squalor.

                                                                                                                  At least Israel gives a good ROI, if you will, on the money. Africa is like throwing good money after bad.

                                                                                                                                                          For example the Netherlands have been doing pretty well for a small country last few olympics because alot of money has been spend to give talented sport people a chance to focus on sports full time without a normal job.
