Hey guys, just wanted to share a little something with you HD enthusiasts...for those who might be interested.

A month or so back I launched CaptureGirls.com - my exclusive content club program. The idea was to shoot high-end quality content (pics & vids) and distribute it only to a handful of clients then pull it from the market. While researching this idea, everybody I talked to wanted HD video. Well, up to that point, we had not shot any HD video - for anyone.

Needing an HD camera before we could launch production, I decided against dropping mega-bucks into a state of the art HD cam and decided to start with something small and relatively inexpensive. We would test the waters and if business was good, we would then buy a more professional HD cam. A friend recommended the Sony SR11 which turned out to be an amazing little camera. It cost about $1000 with shipping and an additional battery.

I spent a few days working with the camera - learning it's limitations and from there we began using it. The first shoot was rough, trying to figure out how far we can push the camera etc. After the 3rd shoot, I feel we got about as much out of the camera as it had to offer. Here's some sample footage from our shoot with Georgia Jones. The footage doesn't have the definition like the high dollar HD cams but for what it is...I think it looks great. It's not AMAZING footage by any means but for a $1000 investment, I think it kicks major ass and it looks better than a lot of stuff I see utilizing more expensive gear. Our clients having been raving about our footage ever since we launched!

I wanted to post this to show that even a small investment in an HD camera can produce striking results if you learn the basics of photography. It's all about lighting and it doesn't matter if your lighting stills or video footage. If you know your stuff - you can do it. And the more you practice - the better you'll get.

Let me know what you think about the quality of the footage. Keeping in mind it's shot with a $1000 consumer grade camera

Last week I bought a Sony Z7U - a state of the art HD cam that recently hit the market. It'll take us a few shoots to figure it all out (it's very complicated) but this camera will enable us to take the quality of our HD footage to even a higher level than before. Our goal is to have our video footage rival our still pictures

Hey Dean ya earned one of my Rare Suggestions on your business model.

If I were you I would get deals with some HD producer's before making it available for licensing on the net.

Otherwise shooting in HD for the net is quite unimportant.
I am pretty sure you would do well with a video label to release an exclusive series for HD Video. It works into a win/win for both you and your clients + Cash in hand.

ANd since you are in LA now Ya should give Matrix a call they know some guys that will give ya a series without a problem.

Great looking footage (and I love Georgia - she's so much fun to shoot). Is there anyway you could let it slip what diffusion lens you're using, or is that done in post?
