I helped start my wifes landscaping company that she still owns.
Though are you talking real landscaping or more maintenance? (mow, blow, go)
Also what state are you in?

I got friends that own tree trimming and landscaping companies.

Local to me that shit is big business that people are willing to pay big $$$ and it has very low overhead..

the good thing is it's recurring year after year business.. so you build up a nice client list..

a good friend of mine owns his own company. during the summer months he clears $5k a week or so. there is good money in it, keep your clients happy and they will stay your clients. feel em out, keep a good route and a good schedule, and you can do well in it.

-Better have a ton of start-up money for equipment.
-Nice budget for insurance on everything
-Ready to babysit, I mean work with a full staff of people you can trust to work for you when you have enough business where you can't handle things all on your own?
-Gas is a bitch right now, you'll be driving all over the place.
-Hope it doesn't rain all the time around you, or droughts for that matter. Fuck it, or winter for that matter.

I could go on... there are positives too though trust me. I'm just a glass is half empty dickhead in this thread!!

Overhead is far from low.
Aside from wages, insurance (big one there), workers compensation, gas, oil, blades, dump fee's, tool hours, and so forth it adds up fucking fast.

Recurring can happen and typically does when your doing the standard work. Though residential is much different than commercial so they are not always yearly accounts. You will also be blindsided by those attempting to start their own companies without knowing the actual costs so they underbid jobs left and right. Naturally they land many clients and steal some of yours too, until they either go out of business do to overhead, lack of quality, or they finally realize that they must raise their prices.

Well I have almost 4 years experience in maintenance I have done almost all aspects of the job and treat each job as if it was being done for my own home. I am located in Northern Virginia. I'm kind of happy that you were the first reply I was thinking your nick in the back of my head when i posted. Care to chat on icq?
