Visa/Mastercard Porn Profits

I've been curious about the profits Visa/Mastercard make in general online. They must make a very good amount. I'd be even more curious what percentege of that is porn. What do you guys think? More then 65%?

Since these new regulations have started, there has been lots of talk of doom and gloom and with good reason. But in the end doesn't Visa and Mastercard have more to gain from porn then to loose?

Let's take AT&T for example. They have gotten alot of public press in the past when religious groups (Morality in Media) attempt to get them to break off their hardcore cable deals. No where on paper or in the press will AT&T ever say "We Love Porno", but they support it in a round about way. They don't give in to these groups (like Yahoo did) and the reason they don't is because they make gallons of money. It's all about the bottom line. You don't bite the hand that feeds you.

So could the same be true for Mastercard/Visa? Could these regulations actually be more positive because they want to make things more "legit" and still reap the benefits?

Here is what I think:

Visa loves porn. They love all the money they make from porn. Visa wants to continue to make money from porn.

Visa hates chargebacks. They hate all the money that chargebacks cost them. They want to minimize the number of chargebacks, and thats why they have these new regulations.

Visa does around 2 trillion a year while porn is prob around 4 billion. That's about 2%.

Visa takes 2 trillion from online ventures? I think he was asking what percentage of visa's online profit comes from porn. Gotta be more than 2%.

I think that statistic was 5% of their total gross. I'm sure porn is a LOT more than 5% of their online business. However, I think their online profits have a long way to go to match the rest of their eanings. I have enough credit card credit to buy a car, but if I ever used it to buy a car, I would sure as fuck buy it from someone I can see face to face. On a more realistic level, people may buy hiking boots and coffee beans online, but for that washer/dryer set or that Fender Stratocaster guitar, most people would prefer to spend that kind of money at a local store where they can look at the good first.

Yeah i agree a big chunk of their ONLINE profit is porn but their online profit isnt comparable to their mainstream offline...If there was ever a point risking their good mainstream name because of porn they would drop it in a second

some light is shed.... think the number of times you've used your credit card for gasoline, restaurant, hotel, whatever.. vs. the number of times you've used it for porn. Either, you've got a serious problem or the ratio speaks for itself.

thats what I've been saying for the longest AND if you're able to adapt you should have a nice road ahead of you...The only people that should be worried about these regulations are the people we should have been policing ourselves in the first place... I'm in 100% agreement with the regulations, except for the low ass chargeback ratio limit..but that will work itself out because like you said,Visa wants that porn money

I was trying to focus specifically with online purchases and online spending.

Obviously since the birth of Ecommerce, Visa/MasterCard have reaped the rewards. I certainly understand that ecommerce is extremely far from making the same kind of money that regular day to day retail stores do around the globe.

But I would still think Visa/MasterCard make a pretty penny from online profits and that a sizeable chunk of those profits are made from porn.

I'm trying to look at the situation in a logical manner, especially since we've all read some conspiracy theories that Visa/MasterCard will pull out of porn.

I would think Visa/MasterCard make too much money and stand only to gain even more money as more people go online.

1 month membership bought online: ~$30
Computer bought online: ~$1000

i'm sure online auction sites alone make as much money for visa as online porn does.
