Franz Kafka expert James Hawes has written a book entitled "Excavating Kafka" which reveals what Kafka kept in his porn stash. Initially, the American publisher did not want to reveal this discovery but Hawes got them to reconsider.
Hawes states: "These are not naughty postcards from the beach. They are undoubtedly porn, pure and simple. Some of it is quite dark, with animals committing fellatio and girl-on-girl action... It's quite unpleasant."
Hawes adds that academics have tried to overlook Kafka's porn interest because it took their idol off a pedestal they had him placed on. Hawes feels that this revelation does not diminish Kafka's great literary works; it only shows how human he was.
