Bangkok hotels?

I'm thinking Sofitel, I leave tomorrow night. All I really care about is the internet availability.

Anyone have experience with hotels like Shang or similar? Any boutique hotels I wouldn't know about?

The Sofitel is a great hotel, and it has faster internet than the hotel I stayed at in Singapore. I was quite shocked.

Their pool sucks but the rest of the hotel is amazing.

No, I stayed in the Sofitel Silom.

Was way more than I expected from looking at the rest of Bangkok, but I'm pretty confident the The Grand Sukhumvit is every bit as nice.

The Silom was just a couple blocks from the sky train, and they were great about arranging transportation when we needed it.

The Chili Crab is awesome there, even better than the chili crab we had in Singapore. You definitely have to eat a lot of that.

Just remember to use the bottled water there, even to brush your teeth

Why? I've been here for years and brush my teeth and shower with regular faucet water, and I'm just fine

Thurbs, you should stop by my place for a few hours, we can work/brainstorm together

Hotels, hmmm, I have friends the live/stay in The Ascott, it's got the best gym in Thailand, good internet, and awesome food, but the location sucks imho

Ok cool man, just let me know if/when you have time for working (I have wireless in my apt) and/or for some nightlife ;)

Btw, The Ascott is near a BTS station

Why dont you like motorbike? Those are my favorites! They're fun, and the quickest way to travel in Thailand

Doctors and nurses when I went for my vaccines.
Actually, the doctor in Bangkok told me that too when I got sick there.

I'm pretty sure where you're from makes a big difference as some countries treat their food with anti-biotics and some countries don't. Some people in some countries have developed immunities to some things that other people haven't. Stuff like that.

I was told to avoid it if I can. So I did... when the doctor in Bangkok told me to avoid it, I didn't question it.

If the doctor in BKK told you that you're sick because of the water means he had absolutely NO IDEA what was wrong with you at that time

He didn't say it was because of the water. He advised not to drink the water.

Ive stayed at the Shangri-la Hotel Bangkok 3 times and the Oriental Hotel twice. The Oriental is an older building but has a lot of ambiance. Both hotels are very clean and provide wonderful service

if your budget allows, the oriental, shangrila or the peninsula.. its at the far end of silom on the river... if you want to be on sukhumvit road and smack in the middle of some seriously nice shopping stay at the Grand Hyatt or the Four Seasons... you're in the middle of 3 really big malls and down the road from the biggest of them all, Paragon... oh and quite some way from the whoring scene

in sukhimvit you'll be inundated with old whoremongers and their 18yo hookers

Boutique Hotel in Silom (where I actaully stayed once in 2006):
http://www.tripletwosilom.com/

great location in center of Silom, good food, well guarded against unauthorizsed access from strangers, wifi & LAN, airco, clean rooms, minibar, etc. Near sky train & subway. Not noisy.

nice prices also (not expensive)
