I had something similar happen to me as well.

I took a group of 20 or so to dinner in LA a couple of years ago, and there was another group of 20 other webmasters were having their own dinner at a table next to us. They left before us and when we were finished I got my check and their check as well. They told them that we were all together and put the bill on me.

That's just a stupid thing to say. Congrats.

what a shitty situation.. good job on getting it off your name ;)

mona 08-11-2008 09:22 AM

The really funny thing is that I bet he/she (wait, it can't be a she since they were impersonating you...oops!) brags about how much bank he has, and then when push comes to shove, he pulls something like this...The people that brag most about what they have are ALWAYS the stingiest, and apparently lacking morals as well. :2 cents:

But, some good times were had!!!

Funny I didn't even see Lisa Sparxxx at the show...

that was a joke people

Reminds me of the Venetian years ago... good times, good times.

lesbodojo 08-11-2008 09:25 AM

I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you. Aside from the money, it took time out of your day having to deal with it...time you could have been making deals. So when you say the amount of money was small...it's not when you consider the time invovled.

I hope this gets resolved quickly for you.

That sucks all the way around. Couldnt have happened to a cooler guy imho. Sorry i missed you at the show too J! :Oh crap

Karma is a fuckin bitch and that's all I have to say about that. :pimp

Before he ever posted in this thread, I had already heard from a reliable source that it was him, Sly, and BradM. Probably explains some of the unnecessary hostility in this thread.

Tom_PM 08-11-2008 09:28 AM

If needs to be outted even if it confesses.

Sands 08-11-2008 09:29 AM

Karma's a story told to children to make them feel better about the World not being fair.

And yes, it was obviously me that ran up the bill on hairdo's room.

K R I S T E N 08-11-2008 09:34 AM

WOW - thats really fu**ed up! Waaay worse than my story bc someone targeted you on purpose! That sucks.

I have the security folks going through their security footage to figure out WHO stole my cell phone 1 hour before I was heading to the airport!

I hate people who cheat, lie, blah, blah but I hate people who STEAL even more!

I know! And to think all of this in an industry where everyone always sticks up for each other, nobody would ever fuck anyone over and everything is sunshine and rainbows!

If you can't feel safe in a hotel full of drunk pornographers, where CAN you feel safe?!?!!?!?! :warning:warning

kmanrox 08-11-2008 09:41 AM

wow.. i cant believe ppl still do that nowadays.. but i guess it will always happen.. sucks it happened to someone we know though.. im betting they probably arent even industry people, maybe friends of some industry people... and if the ppl sitting with him are actual industry people maybe they didnt know what he was doing? like, it was his turn to pay the bill and he sprung for it? either way i hope you bust of expose all of them.

RobAlbaugh 08-11-2008 09:42 AM

what did they order to eat? A nice steak? Im suddenly hungry. seriously, hope they own up to it but I doubt they do.

BV 08-11-2008 09:42 AM

Someone didn't try stealing money from you, they did!

If Westin reimbursed you good for them. but someone still stole from you.

If you give them public immunity you suck!

That's all I have to say.

If you have the surveillance picture you best post it here, find out who it is and press charges!

Or you will suck just as bad as he does!

Most of GFY will feel how I do.

Cheers,
BV

JFK 08-11-2008 09:46 AM

POST the pics if you get them .............:2 cents:

Joe BrainCash 08-11-2008 09:48 AM

Holy Crap! Some people shouldn't go out... When you have to steal identity to pay and impress your buddies, stay home instead... I can't believe how at every show we seem to get some of this shit going...

Keep us posted with the outcome Jay.

Funny thing is... since Jay works for YNOT, these things kind of affect the company, making me also interested in who was responsible. I can definitely confirm that the hotel IS indeed reviewing tapes, interviewing staff, etc., and have insisted to us that they WILL figure out who it was. So, as long as the hotel does indeed follow through on what they said would happen ... then yup, someone is going to be outed. And how sweet that will be.

There were a lot of great people at the show in FL... lots of good peeps in this business. But we do also have a few amongst our ranks that are either a) unprofessional, b) unethical, c) unintelligent, or d) all of the above. Often they expose themselves by their behavior. But if we do get a chance to expose the particular thief involved in the incident that Jay posted about, honestly, that will give me something to smile about for the rest of the year. May even build a special section on YNOT as a memorial to the event.

They didn't steal from me, they stole from the Westin.

And you are putting me on the same level of a thief with my potential actions of maybe showing leniency to someone??

I think you win for the stupidest statement thus far in this thread.

Hey, by all means, try and find out who the guy was and expose him. I'm all for that, I mean it's a dick move, he should be exposed.

What I am poking fun at here is the Columbo routine, complete with demand for confession and a sprinkle of "I'm pretty important, you know?".

Find out who it was, out them. Simple. The play pimp forum posturing is just silly. No build up is needed, and it just sets up the big "fall flat on your face" play for the original poster. :2 cents:

Plus I know people in this industry.

They won't be getting off easy. Trust me on that dude.

I prefer calling this the "professional professional" approach.

I do understand where you are coming from and when you say you "know" people in the industry. Its the very people who you "know" that have taken the liberty of using your card without your knowledge. Anyways hope you find out who did it and post it up on all the adult forums because a guy that does a shitty thing like this should be publicly flogged.

Tom_PM 08-11-2008 09:57 AM

But they did steal from you. They stole your identity, and they stole your time.

Now they're continuing to steal from you as you spend energy dealing with this bullshit.

Brad Mitchell 08-11-2008 09:57 AM

Is your livelihood really worth something as ridiculous as this?

As I said last week in another thread, cheaters and theives within this industry are almost always (if not always) short-term thinkers, always looking for the small immediate score rather than the honest long-term business model.

All of them are pathetic, and deserve what they get when they get caught.

LAJ 08-11-2008 10:04 AM

BTW, BV... I don't know you BUT if that was a joke, then I will add a smile here :)

I don't allow mob mentality to direct me in what decisions I make. However I will add this now... Connor Young at YNOT and I have been discussing this and he REALLY REALLY wants to out the person and take things a step beyond that actually.

So chances are someone will be outed.

Jay knows that it's almost certain whoever did this is NOT going to respond... but 1) he gave the person a chance to do the right thing, 2) there's a chance someone witnessed it happen, thought it was fucked up, and will contact us, and 3) it's almost certain whoever did it has read this thread, so let them sweat it out a while we wait for the hotel to get back to us. Sure, there's always the CHANCE that the hotel doesn't come up with anything... and the thief gets away with it. But there's also the chance that they WILL figure it out, and they sounded pretty confident.

I was just telling someone at Internext that no matter what you post on industry threads, no matter how much support you get, no matter the topic, there's always that ONE person who shows up to inject something negative at the poster. It's as predictable as the sun rising in the morning. In this particular thread, you played that role, plain and simple.

Ugghs that suxx!

CDSmith 08-11-2008 10:14 AM

Jay, coddling and protecting the thief isn't the right way to handle this.

Your fellow adult community deserves to know who this lowlife is, period. I don't see how anyone can see it any other way, yet so often I see this refusal to out the offender out of some false sense of "professionalism." If the evidence is irrefutable and you find out without a shadow of a doubt who did it, they deserve to be outted.

Warchild and the others are right, the guy stole your identity, your time, and some of your money (as you said some of the charges were too hard to track down, the amount is irrelevant), and they did so willfully knowing they were ripping you off.

You're being too lenient in not revealing their identity. No point in rebutting this, I won't ever change my mind on this point.

I'm not trying to be rude or sarcastic, because I don't know you... at all. But I will always have the lowest opinion of MOST people in this industry and expect the worst from them.
Being shocked by behavior at shows (like mongoloid retards throwing chairs off of hotel balconies for example) or fights or room charges... it's just something to expect and be prepared for. Same as getting shaved or fucked by reps during traffic deals, or people not following through on their word etc.

Stick to your circle, trust who has PROVEN to you they can be trusted. Otherwise assume murder. ;)

Mr Pheer 08-11-2008 10:25 AM

A thief deserves no leniency.

Find out who they are throw them to the wolves on GFY. But make sure you have the right guy before you do, cause its going to be damaging.

And forging your signature? Why protect a piece of shit that would do that? Several years ago, a webmaster here on GFY forged my signature on some xpics checks. That guy was Scrapper / Jesus H Christ / NE1469 (yes he has several nicks here, probably more) but a scammer needs to be identified so everyone else can avoid them.

We have never met no, but that doesn't matter, I can assure you it's not a joke and I am far from displaying MOB mentality.

You can do whatever you want, don't let what I say sway you one way or another. Let your conscience do that part.

But your actions so far speak volumes.

Hide a thief amongst us. Very nice of you looking out for the rest of us.

My guess it's someone you probably know, someone that doesn't even need the money and probably the other people in his party knew about it also. (just a hunch)

So more than likely there are more people to inform our community about.

I am sure you will do the right thing.

Answer me this, Was there even a police report filed?
