Democrat.

8 years of a Republican president and 6 years of a Republican congress, highest national debit ever, the falling dollar, the $4-5 a gallon gas price, a war on two fronts, saber rattling other countries to do our bidding, among many other things....

Yeah,... I think we've all had enough of this.

I was going to vote for obama because I thought the country needed change and hes an amazing speaker but I just recently saw the light and have now switched to mccain. My main reason is basically that obama will raise our taxes. I think Obama will still win, but I hope not.

I love this rationale...

The Republicans run up this MASSIVE deficit and someone needs to pay for it. Oh, but not the corporations who are shipping jobs overseas, and not the tax payers.

Give me a fucking break.

This is the real world toots. Just like your personal finances and credit. You run up a bunch of debt, you either need to make cuts (like getting out of the wars) or you have to get more money (taxes).

Fucking economics 101...

Democrat here but voting independent this time, both McCain And McObama are made of the same two faced, flip-flopping material, both are just more of the previous 8 years. How the heck is a democratic vp selection commitee going to even consider asking a republican to be the democaratic running mate, doesn't McObama even have enough experience to figure out republicans are not democrats?

By voting for a candidate that will not win you are taking a vote away from Obama (if you typically vote Democrat) was the point being made.

The person voting did not take a vote away from anyone. The person running for the office that did not get that persons vote is to blame. Not the one voting. MSM has twisted this up to make you feel guilty about expecting something from your politicians. So in turn your politicians can make laws you dont agree with, take away your rights, tax you to death and fight wars you dont want.

I also paid attention both in political science class and during the election that saw Bush put into office. I paid attention as voters that were naturally democratic voters voted for independent candidates and therefore helped to make it such a close election and therefore put Bush into office. I wasn't wagging my finger and damning you for your choice. By all means vote however you see as best.

Again, people should vote the way they feel. I have voted third party in the past. However, I also think sometimes part of voting is thinking through what the greater good is for you in your personal mind. If you (general you) think your third party candidate getting a few votes is more important than keeping one of the others out of office then that is all good. Sadly, elections have become as much about the keeping out as the voting in and if you want to keep out it becomes tactical as much as from your heart.

This isn't a choice. You're being told to pick someone who is not a good leader.... someone who shouldn't be a president.
it doesn't matter that you get to "choose" which one... they're both inadequate, therefore there is no real choice at all... only the illusion of choice.

It amazes me that the great US of A and all their flag waving "threatened by our freedom" patriotic rhetoric crap is incapable of mustering up a single good candidate.

"elected officials".... right. And I was voted to be the father of my household because I made my kid call me dad.

The world is laughing at the US election process, has been for 8 years and this election isn't helping to rebuild it's reputation.

I'm going Independent. Why anyone would vote for someone you don't mostly support is beyond me. Both support things I don't like, both don't really listen to the people, both have special interest groups at heart, and both aren't going to really do shit to help this country.

So I'm putting my vote in a direction that I think would help this country.

I also find it funny that some think voting Independent is tossing a vote away. Lots of Independent people in power positions, it takes time to get the voice of a few heard and ever more time to change peoples minds.

Lets see, what costs me more? Mccains 15-20% tax or obamas 30% tax? The national debt doesnt mean shit to me. How much comes out of my pocket matters to me.

You may want to read up more on this.

First, they have to get these changes passed through Congress, and most will not pass.

They both are talking about reducing taxes in some areas and increasing in others. The total net gain of tax is not 15-30% for either of them.

McCain, is talking about shifting taxes, so far what he has stated could not possibly pay off the national dept, it would actually increase. So you will pay less in some areas and more in others, paying the same rate you pay today.

Under Obama, 5% of the Americans would be effected and 95% would have a reduction. Now he is also talking about other gov funded programs, which have to be paid for. This is what the lower income people will take up since they take a cut on ss tax. If his plan went through as is, the national dept would be paid off and the average American would pay less tax.

In short, Obama's plan will make the country money and McCains will cost it net revenue. If the tax plans went through as is.

The positive of McCains plan is to lower the corporate tax rate by 10%, that would bring in billions of dollars and create jobs. But his other tax shifts pretty much kill this benefit for the average worker.

So really, with both - we are all screwed. Rich or poor.

Why not just make it 0% tax, run up the debt way more... have the next party panic like mad and ramp up the taxes to 80%??

Exactly right.

You have to love it when a short sighted fry cook comes in and talks about how they do not care about anything except the IMMEDIATE it takes out of their paychecks.

Why? Democrats don't nominate religious conservatives to make laws for the rest of us. That's a Republican thing.

Unless you WANTED a religious conservative to be nominated. Then I understand your concern.

Ahhh - the 'Nader effect'? I've always wondered why it isn't referred to as the 'Perot effect'. Must be the media or something.

Personally - I'll be voting Libertarian again.

Personally - I'll be voting Libertarian again.
Because the Nader effect possibly did actually swing an election where as Perot wasn't that big a deal in the end. The Nader effect also was part of the dangling chad election and so will long be part of that story.

Again, vote however you wish that is the joy of having a system such as ours (both the US and the UK) and not one like Zimbabwe.

For me, I will admit that I want to get the republicans out of the White House more than I want Obama to be in it. I have no problems with Obama but I am not jumping up and down to praise him either. I do think it is time for a change (and I hate even saying that because it sounds like I 'bought' the campaign but it is just what I have said for years) and for me that means voting against the republican ticket rather than for the democratic ticket. To do that, I have to, in my mind, vote democrat for me to feel I tried.

I'm curious to know how many people here actually know the difference between a democrat and a republican. I'm willing to bet that not many do. If I were to ask most of you out in public, where you couldn't immediately run to the internet to look it up, I'd bet good money that the majority of you wouldn't be able to explain the difference between the two parties.

Not trying to start shit. Just making an observation.

Yeah,... I think we've all had enough of this.
