Music question
I am a songwriter and composer and was wondering if there are any fellow writers/musicians here. I have thought about offering to provide music for use on web-sites and was wondering if paysites make use of music files. I have read a couple threads where people are looking to license music and have been directed to sites which provide royalty free loops, a number of which are fully produced instrumentals that will do the trick and they are relatively cheap (e.g., $25.00 or so).
I can provide the same kinds of music for a competitive price, including both instrumentals and fully produced songs with vocals in a number of different genres, including pop, rock, country, classical, and world music. I can also do other genres but the ones mentioned above are the ones I write best in. I am toying with the idea of starting my own label and publishing company and setting up an affiliate program which will allow web-masters to stream my music on their sites for free and make money by referring surfers, the same way that sponsors allow you to use free content to promote their sites. Do you think that a program like this might be something web-masters would be interested in using? If you are a writer/musician, have you licensed any of your songs to web sites? What genres do you write in? Here are a couple examples of my work Lonely Fool (with lyrics) - R&B/Soul http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defa...ngID= 6673635 Sweet Kentucky Rose (with lyrics)- Country http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defa...ngID= 6673729 Live Your Life Your Way (with lyrics) - Pop Rock NOTE - this is an unfinished demo. There will be a new singer and some lyric changes on the final version. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defa...ngID= 6673793 Shamrocks and Clovers (instrumental) - World Music (Traditional Irish) http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defa...ngID= 6702805 Turks (instrumental) - World Music (Arabic/Turkish) http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defa...ngID= 6737354 Sunday Morning (Instrumental piano solo) - Classical Music http://www.soundclick.com/bands/defa...ngID= 6674218 |

I think offering up music for content usage would work well personally.
It hits just about every nerve when I see some provider or site owner post some clip or video with a copyrighted song playing in it, for site usage or even just promo. Yet they have the balls to bitch about people stealing their content and putting it up on tubes and torrents.

Very good point. As far as the trade angle,m I already have thousands of pics and video, including exclusive stuff, that will keep me fresh for years. I would consider trades for programming and web design/graphics services as needed.

I'm a musician and I've considered it... I just have a problem selling my music for $25 a track when I can get 300-1500++ from an artist.

But licensing is generally non-exclusive so if you sell enough licenses, you could possibly make more than 1.5k, which is REALLY high. You must have some pretty awesome tracks. What genres are you writing in? Any links to song-files?
