Do you grind your teeth when you sleep?

Do you know of a good remedy for this? I've tried a few things, but it all boils down to caffeine & stress that are the primary causes, which, I've switched from Diet Coke to Water for the past week, and the grinding is still there.

About 6 or 7 years ago, I bought 2 moldable plastic mouth guards and molded them together for Top / Bottom jaw. This seemed to work out well, until the night I woke up choking with the fucking thing half way down my throat.

It makes for a shitty night's sleep.

    Anyone else do this?

i had horrible headaches years ago - doctor sent me to a dentist to see if it was TMJ related - i do clench/grind my teeth - he gave me some simple plastic thing to put in my mouth before bed.
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

      it is stress

I've done it before when things are going rough in life... the best solution is try to lower your source of stress (even if it means breaking up with her )

I had an ex who did that, and it really creeped me out. She just slept thru it so didn't see it as a problem, so she never persued a solution... her teeth are probably worn down to the gums by now.

Did the plastic thing work well and did it cause your jaw to be sore?

Does it work? Did you stop grinding? This thing has been going on many many years, and at one point, I woke up a house of 4 roommates with it. I've even woken myself up with it. It's LOUD. A squeeky / grinding noise.

Yea I grind my teeth to the point that I wake my lady up. I have a mouth guard but most the time I don't use it. Actually I haven't used it in so long I don't even know where the thing is. I do it so hard on one side of my mouth that it's wearing my gums down. Sucks. Going to need to have a graft eventually done there.

This morning I woke up and I could feel I had been doing it. Some nights I wake up and my jaw is all moving around still.

                        fucking blows.

the plastic thing won't let you grind your teeth together - so mechanically it works. did it stop my headaches - no. probably because my headaches weren't being caused by a TMJ problem - i remember at the time TMJ was a very in vogue thing to explain a lot of symptoms - mostly stress related stuff.

The headaches begin with a tensed macetas maximus and come when the muscles above tense. The best is to go to a physiotherapist specialized on temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ). Almost everyone can do it somehow, but only a few are specialized.

You can even feel the tensed macetas. If you put your thumb into your mouth, with the hand outside. Put it a little behind your last teeth. Now you should feel a tensed muscle between your thumb and your hand.
If you are willed to, you can even stimulate it with your hand so long until it relaxes. But do not go over the top!

These plastic things are only for relaxing the macetas and TMJ and to not wore down your teeth.

My sister had it so bad she was on painkillers. She has a special mouthguard, costs around $300 but it's impossible to choke on and prevents her from grinding her teeth now.

2bet does it and it drives me insane. However, it gives me a good excuse to rough him up while he's sleeping so I let it pass.

                                                    I used to do it.

But then i stopped taking 'E'.

My dentist told me I do, I only have his word. Tried the bite guard but it never fit right and actually hurt my teeth so I threw it away and switched dentists, current one told me until it bothers me or is causing more dental trouble we'd ignore it.

if you ask a pediatrician, he will tell you it's because you have pinworms. For real, no kidding here!

go to the pharmacy, they have adjustable one's that do not need to be boiled/molded. it attatches under your upper lip so you can't choke on it and it's small so it's easy to get used to. It only protects your molars from grinding together and leading to root canals. It doesn't cover all of your teth, that's too much.

A dentist I saw in college claimed it was probably the reason I had migraines and made this mouth guard thing for me. I don't think it helped that much with the headaches, but I think it stopped the teeth grinding. My exhusband never told me he heard me doing it, but he snored like a buzzsaw and I sleep with a fan on, so maybe he just didn't hear it. Nobody else has mentioned it in years, so I think I've stopped.

I have found the best way to prevent it is to sleep on your back. Its helped me.

Now I find that when I do have headaches, its from when I woke up not sleeping on my back. It can be hard to sleep like that all the time, but I often wake up like that now so I think my body is figuring it out and making the correction in my sleep.

I would be scared of choking on a grind guard thing too, not for me. Try sleeping on your back, if you don't already that is.
