According to that list, the spice girls are better than Elvis, Little Richard, The Ramones, Chuck Berry and Iggy Pop. Oh my.

Oasis being #1 isn't surprising considering it's a UK list.
What is surprising is Definitely Maybe #1 instead of Morning Glory, which just about every Oasis fan will tell you was their best album.
Oasis never really got their recognition in the US, but for a period in the 90's they were the biggest band in the world.Last edited by Matt 26z; 07-28-2008, 07:47 PM.Comment

IMO Oasis can't hold a candle to other great UK bands like Pink Floyd, The Clash, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, even The Cure is a much better band than Oasis.Oasis being #1 isn't surprising considering it's a UK list.

yea I missed that - hahaha the spice girls. Brits are weird, some of the best bands in the history of music are British, and yet they include Oasis & the Spice Girls as if their music means ANYTHING. Staying within the confines of British music, Pink Floyd's Dark Side should be #1 (one of the most brilliant albums of all time), Beatles Revolver #2, Led Zeppelin IV #3, Black Sabbath Paranoid #4, Radiohead The Bends #5, Pink Floyd The Wall or Wish You Were Here #6
That's just fucking obvious. The influence those bands had on every band that came after them is enormous. Putting Oasis on that list at all, let alone #1 is a fucking joke.Comment

We have a winner.
Just like when American sportscasters show the top plays of the year (or all-time), isn't heavily slanted towards American sports, reviewers rate top movies and so on. There obviously is a bias and if the list was from an American source, you can bet there would be differences.Comment

The best music of all time is almost always the soundtrack to the happiest times in one's life. From there, the best band of all time was their favorite band during that period.
I think it's safe to say that this magazine's target demographic is people aged 25-35.
The really modern sounds aren't listed until around #30, yet they will do this list again in 10 years (and have a new readership demographic) and that Arctic Monkeys album at #86 will be moved into the top 10.Comment

Ahh, I see.. this is just a UK reader based survey... no one in their right mind would have the list so damn full of UK shit.Comment

Considering that most of the greatest bands of all time are from UK my list would definitely have almost ALL UK shit at the top, co. But it would still look much different from this one.Comment

I remember this list about 7 or 8 years ago had 3 radiohead albums in the top 5. It's not a bad list though.
I'd like to see
Seal - Seal
Paul Simon - Graceland
Added though, and a couple of others squeezed in.Comment

Doggystyle should be in also, even a UK list should have some Snoop in.Comment

Wow a UK list of 100 greatest albums and Elvis Costello gets the snub????????????????????
that alone makes this list worthlessSell a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach a man how to fish, you ruin a wonderful business opportunity. -Karl MarxComment
