You pronounce it "cool" they say... There's a problem right there.
"yeah Jom, go search on cool dot com"... Jesus, shitty results, shitty results page, shitty name. Bye bye cuil. |

I doubt any competitor would even stand a slight chance against google, since anyone successfully competing with anything google offers has three options:
1. Sell to google for an insane ammount of money 2. Be stomped to the ground by their army of lawyers 3. Sell to google competitor who maybe big but doesn't successfully break the google domination anyway |
results are way off on everything i have searched...
do a search for 'free porn' and you will see some interesting results. i also find the multi column layout really confusing and i don't understand the 'explore by category' feature. |
i just dont really like the results I get when searching.
|
Being as big as Google is gives big G the luxury of time. Even if someone came out with a SE that was 2X better, Google could slowly make it's own results comparable without losing too much market share in the process.
To knock down big G you will need revolutionary new search engine that is unlike anything anyone has ever seen. I checked out this site and the results are terrible so far. I searched for an adult message board and "ilovejesus.com" was the number two result with an article about roller coasters???? I'm no fan of Google but I'm not seeing anything in Cuil that is groundbreaking. At least so far. |
This new search engine has a different interface from what we?re used to seen online! The magazine' template doesn?t work well! I think it's a mistake, the results are difficult to read, because of the confusing way they?re displayed, I think it needs a better hierarchy.

Some new ideas for search, but bad results so far, and its buggy.
|
should be interesting where it leads..
but: We didn’t find any results for “hotels vancouver” boo.. |

Bad name. How do you get "cool" from "cuil"? That's a bit of a stretch.
A competitor to google is good for everyone (well almost). Site appears to be down for me. Their servers are probably being overloaded. |
So far I'm not impressed. The results often are pretty crappy and don't really give you any good stuff. I did a search for a few things and half the results are just spam doorway pages and things that have nothing to do with what I searched for. The key to having a popular search engine is delivering Serps that people want and can use and so far this one doesn't seem to be doing that. Maybe they will adjust and get better, but first impression is everything. I see no reason for me to use them now over google. In six months when they are better I will will most likely have forgotten about them.

Meanwhile, the phrase "Cuil Sucks" is making its way up the Google Hot Trends list of the most popular search terms. So far today, it has peaked at 35.
What a way to launch. http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends |
$33mil in investments? with google buying up shit left right and center, and throwing offers around like $200million for digg, i wouldn't doubt if you see CUIL bought up with a year or so. if Google considers them to be that big a threat, they will start tossing money at them like it's going out of style...
|
No results due to load....
uh, seems like they got some work to do |
this may be the worst i have used. i dont like nav or results pages.
google fears nothing at the moment, especially from these guys. and why is it telling over 2 million results but returning 1 page which has nothing to do with my search term???? |
They won't be going anywhere unless they come up with a better name than Google.
|
even cuil'ing for "cuil" or "cuil.com" returns shit results.

No results because of high load... Due to excessive load, our servers didn't return results. Please try your search again. |

I'm not impressed with cuil.com so far...
"No results because of high load... Due to excessive load, our servers didn't return results. Please try your search again. " lol |
Was funny on CNN when the chick tried to use the site and it was not accessible.
|
Their spider is a piece of shit, too. Google "twiceler" and you'll see how people have been pissed because it's been slamming their servers. I blocked it from hitting my server a while ago and based on the shit searches I'm seeing on their site, I don't regret it.

either that or with the media as of late they are suffering a "lag" time with people testing it out... either way, seems like they wont be competing with google, yet |
I can't believe they raised $33 million. :))
