A Hall County woman who sued her ex-fiancé for calling off their wedding has been awarded $150,000 by a jury, according to a WSB-TV report.

RoseMary Shell said she moved to Hall County from Florida, leaving behind a high-paying job, to join Wayne Gibbs. She also said that she has suffered emotionally and financially since their break-up in 2007.

Gibbs said he paid off $30,000 of Shell's debt during their engagement and also took her on trips. When he found out Shell had even more debt, he canceled the wedding. He notified her by leaving a note in their bathroom.

The jury awarded Shell the $150,000 Wednesday.

"People shouldn't be allowed to do that and hopefully he'll think twice before he does it to someone else," Shell told WSB.

According to that, she left her "high-paying job" BEFORE he found out she was concealling her financial debt. That sounds like plain old tough shit for her. Dont lie about things and expect the person to just be ok with it when they uncover it, you moron. You dont get to sue for that. Thats like suing someone for stealing your illegal drugs; if you didnt have illegal drugs, they wouldnt have been stolen dumbass. The sad part of this is that some judge and jury allowed this to go on and actually awarded the true crook more of the victims money! Christ.

My cousin did the same thing several years ago (10+). She wanted the money back for her dress , bridesmaid dresses, and the money her father had paid for the wedding. The bastard pulled her wheelbound mother over the night of the rehearsal dinner and said "I just can't do it" and left the next day for 14 days in France with his brother - their honeymoon trip. Plus the rehearsal dinner was at the Capital City Club - a place HE wasn't even a member of - my family was - and he decided that was a good time to bring this up. It was a 1+ year engagement.

His family owns several radio stations and my cousin is a minor TV celeb so they trashed him so much he ended up threatening to sue the stations he didn't own ;)

She got all the money back, took the engagement ring and got a top of the line Rolex, sold the dress on Ebay and when he was voted one of People Magazine's Top Bachelors she wrote a nice little letter to editor of WHY he was a bachelor ;)

And still, neither one of them are married, lol.

Yeah but Peaches.. You know based on simply the timeline that she left her job with the knowledge that this man did not know her full story. And he had also already paid off $30,000 of her personal debt, just as a boyfriend! And it was different also in that he didnt just decide to run away. He discovered lies and who can blame anyone for feeling naturally like they've been lied to and cant trust anything anymore and wanting out? Thats quite a difference.. I dont think this sucker should have been victimized by the court a second time, and that's honestly how I feel about it. Sure he was a doormat, paid off his girls debt and who knows what else.. Evidently her high paying job wasn't high enough ya know. But also evidently she felt his income more than compensated for her job, and out of the two of them, ONLY she knew the real truth. I dont see how blame can be visited on him for leaving. Personally I think the judgment was for the WAY he left, which is why I ask if it would have been better if he'd done it more gently, sweetly, and full of acid in his voice at a nice 5 star restaurant rather than a note in the bathroom, lol.

I suppose the man could have married, then instantly sued for divorce and the systematic deception practiced on him to get his money, lmao. What a world!

If she was concealing financial liablities from the man she was about to marry, a man that was already generous to pay a substantial sum of money towards her debt already leads me to believe that despite leaving a "high paying" job she was working this guy for money. He had every right to leave her and should not have been help accountable for any expenses or money lost. If she wanted that she should have had to deduct the money he had already given her to pay off previous debt.

Saw the woman and her lawyer on tv today. When the news anchor asked about the man discovering some secret debt, the woman claimed "he knew" about all of her finances and "he knew" there were other debts and "he had always known" what all of her bills were.

I guess what she was trying to say is that he simply got cold feet and it amounted to a breach of contract. That promises were made and then not carried out. She also revealed how he had previously broken off their engagement and they'd broken up about 6 months prior. This is when she got her high paying florida job. She said she was very happy on her own and living in florida. Then she said "he moved me back in" when she'd gone back to visit and he'd cried and proposed marriage and promised her a good life.
