Another taser death incident in Canada

Cops killed a guy here in good ol' Winnipeg yesterday with a taser.

"When the officers caught up to the man and approached him, he produced a knife.

Before the man was shocked with a Taser, he refused to drop his weapon, another source said."

The committee asked the Winnipeg Police Service to produce a public report on Taser use late last year after a high-profile incident last October where RCMP killed a Polish immigrant at Vancouver International Airport.

A prominent human rights organization, meanwhile, has been calling for the use of Tasers to be suspended.

See, now am I just one of the few who thinks that you shouldn't be getting up to illegal shit and weilding a knife at people in the first place, and if you do you get what you get?

Call me crazy.

Is the tazer the problem or the criminal? I'm inclined to have little sympathy here.

Personally I think they are too quick to use them, however the guy did have a knife. The police around here killed an unarmed guy with one, they said it was because he held it o him for 37 seconds when they call for 5. I've seen them just go up to someone and zap them with it, no warning, no telling them to stop or anything.

police are all pieces of fucking shit, they are all trigger happy and are looking for any excuse to fuck u up and some even kill you.

who knows if the guy even had a knife? cops lie constantly to cover their own asses.

i am most afraid of police rather then anyone else on earth. i would never call the police no matter what the situation.

I agree that police should stop using tasers. The police should just go back to a shoot to kill policy... tasers are too risky.

yes I think they use them way too much. I've seen video of cops tasering a older lady cause she wouldn't get off the phone and step out of her car.. come on why can't you take the phone from her and drag the lil old lady out if that is what you need to do but why do you need to taser someone that poses no threat to you in any way..

In this case with a guy with a knife maybe they had cause to do it but i think they are way too trigger happy with tasers in general

How to avoid death by taser:

a) don't do a bucket of cocaine and get drunk, cause a ruckus, and confront and antagonize cops who have guns and tasers

b) don't flash / brandish knives or other weapons at cops who have guns and tasers

Are there irresponsible cops? Absolutely. Is it better to be irresponsible with a taser than a gun? Yes.

I have no problem with tasers, or abuse of tasers. Maybe people should stop doing illegal shit and stop being idiots.

I've never been shot, tasered or even hassled by cops. Matter of fact EVERY SINGLE instance I have come into contact with police has been a good experience. With RCMP, CHP and local law enforcement.

Reason? I am not a fucking idiot, criminal or douche. If you're polite, and are not being a moron they have no reason to be anything but civil back.

People who are getting killed by cops 99% of the time deserve it anyway.

In Canada there appears to be some pretty strict guidelines on how and when cops can use a taser on someone.

Good point. I don't know about "constantly", but some do lie like rugs from time to time. I know this first hand, sadly.

In this case it was in broad daylight outdoors in a busy and rather rough part of the city. Looks like there were a couple of witnesses too....
