Did you at least try a high beam flash first?

I know if I get a tailgater that didn't do a flash first or I obviously can not switch lanes that very damn second due to say semi's on my side. I think I would slow down even more. Fucking hate tailgaters and their complete since of peoples safety.

When I'm in the left lane (even at 100mph+), I'm constantly checking my rear view mirror. I don't get 'flashed' and I don't get tailgated, because I get out of the way when it's warrented.

If you are honestly concerned about people's safety, don't use the passing lane as your personal lane.

If you have driven norther I-5 you would know what I am talking about. Now when you have 3-4 semis on one side and decide to pass them at say 70-75. I usually don't tailgate if the car in front of me is locked in front and side because there's nothing in the world that they can do about it. It's the bastards that are in the front of the pack and still going the same slow speed limit as the car to their right that pisses me (and the line of cars tailing me) off. You don't have to swerve to the right to get out of the way that exact second but certainly you can attempt to drive 3 mph faster in order to pass the car beside them.

It's like climbing up the escalator and coming up to two people that are standing on the same step, I come up behind them and say excuse me and they move over to let me pass if they can. Same concept. It's not complicated and it's not personal.

This is my number one driving pet peeve. I always move over to let someone faster pass, no matter what the speed. And I'll also speed up if I need to so he doesn't have to slow down before I can safely move.

I wish they would put signs every 300M, "Keep right except to pass" and "Slower traffic keep right".

Most people from Toronto are pretty good at moving over. The worst offenders I've ever seen were driving between SF and LA. People there just don't seem to give a shit about moving out of your way at all.

1) It's called the passing lane for a reason and in most states the law clearly says as much.

2) Forcing those behind you to pass in one of the lanes intended for slower traffic creates a greater hazard for all.

If the law says the speed limit is 65 mph and someone is driving 50 mph in the left lane the it would make sense for them to move over for someone that is driving faster.

If the law says the speed limit is 65 mph and two drivers are doing 65 mph in both lanes and someone is driving OVER the speed limit behind them, are the two drivers who are doing the posted speed limit required to yield to the driver that is breaking the speed limit?

That is what he is saying. And that is how it should be. In North America people have that attitude that if they are going the speed limit or over it then they have a right to be in the fast (or passing lane) and stay there regardless of the traffic behind them.

This is not how you should drive. A driver on the highway is there to drive not enforce the law. holding up faster cars just increases the chances for road rage and more importantly bad drivers weaving in and out of traffic. Move out of the way, or better yet don't cruise in the fast lane in the first place (there really is no reason to unless you know you are going with the flow or creating the flow).

I would venture to guess that the problem is caused largely by the fact that most people don't actually check their mirrors and probably have no idea that someone is behind them.
