Thank you goodgirl, Buddy loves it.

Just received an iRobot Roomba from goodgirl. I have to say, even if it doesn't clean well, Buddy thinks it is the best thing since the invention of the dog park.

Just got it this morning, letting it do its first run right now, in my den, which is all tile.

I was a little concerned at first because it started off going in a small circle and I thought it was getting caught in the grout between the tiles (all 2x6), but it soon took off blasting around the room.

Just took a quick look, it appears to be doing a pretty good job. I can think of a couple improvements they could add to it, like a cleanser tank so it can squirt dirtier spots, or wax it for me.

But it will be a good substitute between the time that the maids come.

You are welcome I really wish I could of found a way to do the civil war cannon for your birthday, but I thought this would be helpful with the dog hair.

The cannon would be cool, bit this is much more useful . . . plus it keeps Buddy on his toes (already snuck up on his tail a couple times).

They work great on hardwood. Works OK on carpet too. I have problems with mine on the tile though, and it won't make the leap from hardwood up onto an area rug.

Supposedly the newest ones are a little better at handling tile, they don't get stuck as much.

I'm going to buy one of the heavy duty ones meant for garages too.

The carpet situation is a little weird. My kitchen and entryway have very thick tiles. My living and dining rooms are hardwood. The tile is about an inch higher than the hardwood. It takes that jump either way with ease.

There is a bedroom off the entry that is carpeted. The carpet is pretty much the same height as the tile, so it goes in there easily (can't say how well it "cleans" as the door is usually closed and the maids were just here a few days ago).

There is a carpeted hallway that meets the hardwood. The carpet is a little higher than the hardwood and it doesn't seem to want to to keep trying to take that route.

I need to learn more about the options. Guess it is supposed to know when the battery is low and just work its way back to the home base for a charge before it is too late.
