Tabless has no advantage to standard Table Based layouts, infact Tabless layouts still have many cross browser incompatibilities. Meaning A tableless design is more likely to look like shit in in IE than FireFox and will look different in a Nokia and even more different in an Ipod. Fact is... It is still unreliable for control of layout.

There are still many issues to be solved with Tableless based design.
Only reason anyoen would want tabless design is for Mobile devices and such and even in those cases Tableless over Table design is not even worth comparing.

Its just a different way but not a solid way that insures cross browser and mobile compatibility. Table based design still is better, however a good designer uses both and knows when to use Tableless and not use Tables.

Congrats, you just set a record for the most uses of the non-word "tableless" in a GFY post. How do I know, well there are red Firefox typo underlines all over your post ... and now mine too.

holy fucking shit, did AlienQ really just say that about tables/css? I'm not even a designer and I'm not that dumb...

Yeah, because more markup and bloat is exactly what search engines love to eat up, lets not forget the fact there are absolutely no benefits to semantic markup, or reducing overall file size because you don't have lines upon lines of tr's and td's and other garbage.

I hate to tell you, but just because you can't code a layout without tables and get it working across platforms doesn't mean tables are better. Every single bit of xhtml & css i write works across FF & Safari on mac, IE, FF, Opera, and Safari on Windows, and generally looks the same in konqueror and all the other not so primary browsers. With one additional stylesheet to strip out all the additional stuff, it'll most likely work fine on mobile devices too.

It might just be a mis-guided attempt to "make it simple" for newbie coders, or it might be a cynical ploy to crush the competition, but in any case it creates huge headaches for those of us who desire to employ CSS positioning on our pages.

CSS Positioning is easy if your not a complete tool. Boo-hoo browsers don't render css the same way, no shit, they probably never will. It's simple enough to get around any of these types of problems and even using work-arounds better then a table based layout.

Using browser rendering inconsistencies to justify your lack of xhtml / css skills is a cop out, and a weak one at that.

I don't even know why i responded to such retarded fucking shit, i'm not even a designer but something this stupid from someone that claims to be deserved to be called out and responded too.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 07-18-2008 01:13 PM

Here I will quote myself again because as usual you people are fucking retarded.

"A good designer uses both and knows when to use Tableless and not use Tables."

I tend to use both myself. Just depends on the situation. Thanks as usual fuck heads for not reading what I say properly and taking it out of context. But that explains why I am bad ass designer and you are not.

OH and I will stand by Tableless Design NOT being better than standard markup for the reasons I already said. You want to go and code and concern yourself with every browser bug problem CSS poses? Go for it, but you are wasting your time when not utilizing elements of standard markup to avoid problems in Cross Browser compatibility or and IE.

As I said above IE is the biggest CSS breaker unfortunatly IE is also the most widely used browser. WHat ya gonna do?

Cry on GFY about my work which you fucking know ZERO about?
Go fuck yer useless moms.

TheDoc 07-18-2008 01:26 PM

Not that I don't use tables on some stuff, it can make life much easier.

I have several designs/sites that use no tables, that are complex, have 99% compliant html/css, and work in every browser, including phones, and I don't have different style sheets for ie and firefox.

All this trash talk about ie/ff, issues, cross browser, bs.. learn to script css/html the right way and all these issues go away. It's like php, you can do it half ass or the right way! Most people choose half ass.

Awright kid's lets play this game.

Show me a tour you done that is 100% tableless.
Show me how practical it is to have a tour with absolute tableless design.

I know I know you Tableless Nazi's are going then start talking about online stores and online based web applications and tabless design but let's see why it is so important that designers move to all tableless design for Tours, FPA's, GALLERIES and free sites.

I am going to bet ya fucken lousy script kiddies will STFU now.

pr0 07-18-2008 01:58 PM

metaman is an excellent designer

I've been sending all of my clients to him as of late.....

his work is just so far above the "gfy par"

lazycash 07-18-2008 02:27 PM

Alienq is still designing by 1999 standards. He never adapted and got left behind. Its a sad tale, but fortunately one we all can learn from.

It's easily practical to have a tour without tables. Most sites are done with tables because of the image slicing, and the fact most designers use something like image ready to slice up and create html, or some other lame tool.

I know I have done a tour with no tables, just can't think of what it is off the top of my head. I do have several fully css galleries and promo tools. Does a members area with 98% css (no structure with tables) count? My tables have nothing to do with browser issues, just areas where a table was more practical.

My blog, in my signature, css - no cross browser issues, no tables, and 99% html and css compliant. Not a paysite, but it sure as hell isn't your standard wp either.

It's a much higher probability that the designer doesn't know how to create a design with css in mind, then correctly slice the design for css. Understandable, when everyone including myself was taught the other way.

I use tables when they are needed, not because I can't get a design to work in one browser or another.

Im not a designer but

http://dixiedash.com

Sure there are lots of things you can point out that is wrong, and thats ok, but thats all .css

Only parts that are not w3c compliant is mostly the flash code for the player. And a few open tags I just found that I wasn't aware of. Ill fix those up tonight.

1off 07-18-2008 04:59 PM

No Tables here

I'm still working on it right now so there are still a couple small issues, but it's 90% there.

this coming from a so called designer whos so called site is one big .jpg with a table.

did you just graudate from noob college or something?

and your table work is sub par still.

i expect a psychopathic reply as always, but until you learn the concepts of doing anything remotely half assed, you should shut your craw.

And NO ONE would stfu coming from you.
