If you've seen Red Dragon....
have you also seen 'Manhunter'? It's a 20 year old 80's version of Red Dragon.... all in all not too bad.... but definately 80's. I haven't seen Red Dragon yet, but I imagine it'll be a turbo charged version of 'Manhunter'.
Comments?

Red Dragon was kinda weak. No suspense, not even a believeable "movie scream".

Manhunter, while being B movie, was one of the best movies I have seen.
haven't seen Red Dragon... Figured I'd wait for the DVD to come out. I read the book back in the 80's and I can't imagine that the new version will do the book justice. |

there was ALOT of (now) big names in Manhunter.... I was surprised at all the people in it.... including William (?) the now star of CSI.

Red Dragon was good but nowhere as good as Silence of the Lambs.

'Manhunter' had obvious 'Miami Vice' influences. Why not? After all, it was done by Michael Mann, the same guy that did 'MV'
'Red Dragon' REALLY plays up the Hannibal Lector connection. Think of the darkness and quiet tones of 'Silence of the Lambs' applied to 'Manhunter', take away the 80's aspects (less pastels) and that should give you a good idea of what 'Red Dragon' is like. And its not meant to be a scary movie. Its a crime movie, more whodunnit than anything else. Its all in the characters, although I did have a tough time accepting Edward Norton in the William Petersen role. |
