I loved the first two. This should be a lot of fun!

It looks gorgeous, but am I the only one here that found Diablo 2 boring and repetitive? Hope it isn't more of the same.

the repetitiveness is part of what made it the greatest game of all time

going on endless numbers of baal runs or andy runs ruled, and even setting up bots and watching them do the same run over and over was awesome

the game just had a perfect combination of factors making it the best of all time

Guild Wars is a lot better than Diablo. Maybe the new version of Diablo will be better as far as graphics go. I will try it if I have some time... I doubt Ill have the time to get very far.

It lacks somewhat in the traditional rp sense but i've never understood why people have to be so black and white about things. Were quests/tasks and the story largely irrelevant to Diablo? Mostly. You could finish all tasks in 30 seconds just by going through the maps and then returning to the town at the end and talking to everyone in one hit and giving each of them their artifact-of-return-to-owner-ness or letting them thank you for killing the big-bad-critter-we-wish-would-die-ness monster.. but that still doesn't make it a bad game. Thats like saying you "hate" a block buster movie because it's dumb fun (I don't understand why it's a binary thing.. why can't you get a boner from anything Charlie Kaufman's ever written or Jean-Pierre Jeunet's ever directed and still enjoy Iron Man (or whatever the popcorn action hero movie of the month is)). The main part of the equation is fun. I don't see how it's less fun because it's not Rogue or whatever. And to a certain extent too much rp can get in the way of fun too.
Anyways.. not the best RPG ever made, but fun enough to suck a good month or two worth of weekends away that you'll never get back... and thats coming from someone who played Bard's Tale 1, Pools of Radience, Ultima 4 etc.

very serious, there have been other great games, but nothing that hit all the buttons like diablo did at the right time

don't get me wrong, I loved halo and battlefield and even wow a bit and many others, but diablo absolutely consumed people's lives for many months when it was peaking

gotorun69 06-30-2008 06:52 PM

damn make money instead of waiting your time dude

Doctor Dre 06-30-2008 07:34 PM

Sounds great, I haven't played any video game seriously since D2... WOW

Now you're speaking my language :thumbsup

Played the fuck out of Bard's Tale 1 especially, on my brother's Apple ][e when I was like 10, that game seriously blew my fucking mind...it's one of those things that probably turned me in the direction of gaming for the rest of my life.

And all the gold box games fucking ruled hard, and Ultima 3 and 4 were seriously ahead of their time as well.

BT1 is still something that gives me warm happy glows when I think about it. FUCK.. I just realised I still remember "STFL" as a spell abbreviation. Ha. Yeah i've re-installed it once maybe 5-6 years ago thinking I could get back into it.. but it's a little hard to play it these days... A little bit of hagiography involved looking back through the mists of time... and without the map and guide etc. Although that'd probably only be a couple of google searches away. I wish someone would port it for a PSP or something... maybe with some graphical updates and a few more things.
I don't know whether it's because it's the first RPG I played that I remember it so fondly or not. I know that most these days don't do as much for me.
Ultima 4 is probably just one of the best RPG's ever. It had so much depth and so many facets. The single complaint I had with it was that when you levelled your character to 100 it flipped back over and started at 1 again which was an obvious error that these days would have been patched easily. Yeah those two are way up the list for me. I try to stay away from games these days though. Wastes too much time. I'd rather have something quick like poker or Worms on the PSP you can pick up and put down in 5 minutes than install something thats going to suck a lot of quality life or work time away... which is pretty much RPG's in a nutshell. I might wait till I have kids that are old enough to play.. that way I could at least combine dungeon crawling with "quality time" ;)
