last show in prauge was terrible for business but alot of fun. IMO there are way too many shows and they need to be cut back to make them actually worth the investment

I totally agree mike but I was told to find out so I asked the question

what show took place in Prague may I ask ? and why was it bad for business as this may help me a lot .

Has anyone who wants to do this 'euro show' researched the present Euro shows such as Eurowebtaiment-Vienna/Mallorca depending year, WA-AMS, Venus-Berlin, AOE etc. etc. before they thought to create their own? And outside of N.A. you also have Negril, Costa Rica, Thailand and more for locations. Throw in a couple for Canada at some point.

And then the private invite show/events not on the regular calendar.

Throw in the US shows that are every single month now it seems. In September there are 2 shows alone unless you tag on to Munich from AMS then consider it 3 in Sept.

I think I lost count at 25 plus shows a year. And after almost 7 years of doing shows... it's gotten out of hand.

While I have yet to post in any of these recent 'fire' threads, this one I have decided to because I believe anyone who has done their research on the last decade of shows, the ebb and flow of them, and profit/loss margins, of them, etc. may have reconsidered adding another one.

Throw in the value of the US dollar in our economy right now against the Euro, Pound or almost any other currency--and well, that alone speaks for itself.

That is the analysis research needed prior to a thread and any company with adult and economic business acumen I think would know that.

I believe you will find only a slight handful of U.S. people will go to yet another show and even less if you consider the veterans in this industry.

I go where the money flows, not where it is only spent.

I kinda think this says it all. I would not travel to the USA just to go to a trade show and I guess the USA webmasters feel the same about spending a shit load of money just to come to Europe and see/hear what they have heard before. I think If you are gonna do one in Europe it would be far better to target the European webmaster/market

Claire let me be the first to say I'd be happy to attend a free show in Eastern Europe, let me know where to fax a copy of my passport and I'll send along an address to FedEx my plane tix to.

Invest in the shows that we already have, which there are too many too keep up with.

As someone who plans two of the largest North American shows I can tell you that there is alot more to putting on a show than picking a location and they will come. The costs involved in putting on a succsessful show are astronomical. If you throw in subsidies to get people there you are talking about a serious bloodbath.

There are several fine Euro Webmaster shows and gatherings - the chances of a new one attracting attendees from US are slim to none.

I have to say though Claire, you have spunk and determination.

Their is room for another European show, but not if it's another Webmaster Access. I've thought about trying to one in Budapest that has two specific themes to it.... Traffic and Content.

The content market out of Eastern Europe could be so much bigger if it was organized properly, so I'd have half the show floor devoted to this. That means I'd get all the local shooters, talent agencies, make up artists etc together in one place where the could meet the buyers and really do some proper business. Amsterdam is OK for business, but there's too many parties and the company reps don't appear 'till 6 and arent that interested in doing business.

The second focus would be traffic, there are a lot of very smart webmasters based in Eastern Europe, that would attend a show that was kinda local to them. Budapest would be way more central than Prague for this (and probably cheaper).

Prague is OK for me

i think there are enough shows already, however... i think Prague is a better choice then london... as its well known as a sex city. the brits are cracking down on hardcore, so who wants to support that regime by going to their country and helping their economy? its also overly expensive in london.

the dates suck because the miami show is usually a week or two right after that, so most americans would probably NOT make the jump.

as an american living in europe, i think most americans are pretty jaded about the european shows because there has already been a number of very poor european shows they made the trip for and turned out to be lame ducks. its pretty expensive to come here these days as well.

on a side note i think its funny that americans think people in europe should come to more shows, yet its just as much time and energy for us to go there as for them to come here.

Vastly prefer Prague over London, London is too expensive for what you get, rather pay a ticket to New York than spent my money in London.

If you choose Spain, great, but do it on the mainland close or in Barcelona or Madrid, pain to find connections to smaller airports.

26-30th June is a bad date, that period is probably one of the fullest in Europe: weddings, festivals, baptisings ... everyone plans their stuff during that period

btw would be great if some of the Amsterdam shows would move to other cities from time to time, Amsterdam isn't that appealing if you're not into weed
