AVN Online News:Ray Guhn Pleads Guilty of Money Laundering

Ray Guhn Pleads Guilty of Money Laundering
Company owner faces three to five years in state prison.
By: Sherri L. Shaulis

Posted: 06/25/2008

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Ray Guhn Productions is no more, as Guhn and fellow defendants Andrew Craft, Kevin Patrick Stevens and Thomas Dwyer pleaded guilty to various charges Tuesday.

Guhn, 47, whose real name is Clinton Raymond McCowen, was scheduled to go on trial July 1 on charges of obscenity, racketeering and money laundering, and faced up to 90 years in prison. By pleading guilty to the money-laundering charges, he avoids trial and faces three to five years in state prison.

Craft, 40, and Stevens, 38, each pleaded guilty to one count of racketeering and face two to four years in state prison. Dwyer, 41, pleaded guilty to wholesale promotion of obscene materials.

And that is the BS part of our legal system. He may not have even done it, but said he did to avoid prison time.

Totally fucking lame if you ask me.

I would like to know exactly what he did to launder money. My bet is a BS charge like the racketeering charge is.

I suspect what baddog was getting at with his comment at is that any case that ends with a plea bargain has a pretty limited value (usually none at all) in terms of setting precedent.

Without full adjudication, it leaves as an open question the subjects of what the 'standards' for the given community are, whether or not paying models to perform in sexually explicit videos constitutes prostitution under Fla law (and the thornier issue of whether those laws are constitutional, either under the state's constitution or the federal one), etc. etc.

fact is they can now charge anyone and almost be guarnteed they will serve 3-5yrs on some smaller charge be it legit or not. Until someone hangs their ass in the wind and goes the full course it is a green light to start prosecuting.

I was once given the choice between a seat belt ticket or a speeding ticket. I told the officer I couldn't afford another speeding ticket - he replied "I see you don't have your seatbelt on" even though I clearly did.... it's all about getting some kind of conviction.

To me the most telling part of this is the last sentence that says, "We have this problem statewide," he told The Pensacola News Journal. "I hope prosecutors will take our lead and enforce our law." which, to me, means they are hoping other areas in Florida start cracking down on porn production companies. There are some big names in the Miami area I wonder what they are thinking.

I don't think they are worried. Its not like they have been hiding. They are out in the open.
