Is there a service that will check if your site is up

Looking for a service that will check say every hour to see if a site is up and will send a message if the site is down.

Don't know if there is a program that will do this.

thanks

If you only want to monitor 10 sites or less it's free, more than that its a reasonable fee. It can do several different checks, and can alert you many different ways.

If you can set up a Linux box and have your own 24hr connection, there's also a program called "Webmin". One of the modules is called "System and Server Status". This can be set up to monitor whatever you want as often as you want... and email whenever something is wrong.

Only downside is that YOUR connection might have a glitch every now and again, so a blip here and there isn't conclusive. If you monitor 2 or 3 different servers/hosts and only one is repeatedly down... then there's a good chance that the host going MIA periodically.

('System and Server Status' is one of the standard modules)

Since I have cable at home and it's been stable over past year I use Netsaint on a Linux box. If you're not into Linux, you should check into What's Up Gold by IP Switch.

Easiest way would be a Linux box and then have a cron job run every hour and send you a status email...
