I work full time in adult as a content producer. personally I don't see much of a future in content production if the last 4 years are any indication of the future of content production.

my production cost have risen 80%-100%+ while webmasters/programs 'for the most part' expect, and do pay the prices they paid in 2001.

should be interesting to see how it goes. since shooting content isn't as profitable as it was, the goods shooters are leaving the biz, OR spending less energy in production, so more and more 'walmart' porn is being produced.

I see lots of 'walmart' porn posted here at GFY. a guy goes into 'walmart', buys a video/stills camera and bingo! a top content house is created. the reality is that is so easy to get in to production these days people with no real interest in the 'art' of production as flooding the market.

what I'm seeing is really, really poor composition, poor set design, bad lighting, incorrect white balance, horrible audio, and even worse post production. it's kinda weird actually to see 'content' on tours that I would have tossed in the delete file if I'd been unfortunate enough to have created it. I'm also seeing very, very, very poor interaction with the models.

if a program owner doesn't give a shit about their content how can they expect a surfer to give a shit? if the operating concept is "I'll buy the cheapest content I can find" can you blame the surfer for having the same thoughts? the thing is the surfer thinking is more like this: "I'll just watch free porn, why pay for this crap?"

and the funniest thing is this: programs can't understand why joins are down.

I agree, it may not be easy but if you love what you do you will do it better.

Is quiting considered stopping working in adult? or stopping to make money from adult? There is quite a bit of difference, as I would imagine most people would just let the sites die over the next few years rather than sell and get only 6 month income...

I have been in the adult industry since 1991 and been working as a porn director & content producer most of the time since then. This comment is so true, production costs are at an all time high, and I have been able to raise my price to my clients only by so much. It was much better in 2003 when a producer only had to be better than average to have money thrown at them for multiple scenes at a time. Recently, I have upgraded my production capability again to shoot better quality scenes with better talent, better fluorescent lighting, better makeup, better hi-res still photos shot with strobes every time and better locations so I can charge accordingly and keep my clients happy.

There's still a future in content production but only for those who can produce top notch stuff and those producers who shoot niche content or hard to film content. I have also been concentrating more on filming for my own movies and sites as well and making money online with my own traffic and through different means like VOD. I wish IO would have done this way earlier considering how early I got in the business before the popularity of the internet even, but I had disdain for the lack of original content back on the various porn web sites in the net's early days since I was a "famous" porn director who shot movies for VHS & DVD. If I had I would be retired by now!

at some point, i would have to think that working 20-40 extra hours a week in adult but only making an additional $100-$1000 a month at some point isnt worth the effort...

i was asking original question in hopes of getting an idea of how tough it is for the average person to make $ in adult these days and to determine if it is pushing them out of the industry...

so far, it seems (from the initial responses) that most are going to try to stick it out for at least another 6-12 months...

very opposite of what i was expecting, but its late on a weekend... we'll see what the weekday crowd has to say...

your talking about a billion dollar industry and based your question on what a few said that have been in the business for a long time? LOL
I see more people bitching about problems then I do about not making money.
I hate tube sites and think it is stupid to give it away for free. I can't see how it affects my wallet though.

Well I will definitely leave adult within the next 2-3 years for an offline job in the investment sector. It used to be easy and it used to be fun making a lot of money with hardly any effort but if the situation does not improve soon and I think it will not I am better off doing something else.

I'm 11 years into the industry, I'm not sure I could do anything else at this point. I'd be charged with sexual harassment after about 30 seconds.

Things are changing. Already alot of people have been shaken out of the industry. I think it's shrinking but seriously you should still be able to make some nice coin doing something. Just not the way you used to do it.

I'm not going anywhere though. I'm happy to adapt. But I've got a few other areas I can move into ;)

Thanks for the links, Marketsmart. Interesting looking sites.

What pairings are you trading? Been working on setups for the Aussie right now. Seems like a nice trending market right now.

Thanks I'll check that out. I've noticed alot of volatility in JPY pairings. AUD/JPY is pretty attractive to me being based in Australia.

the EUR/USD is a good pair to trade. the best thing to do is find a pair you like and start learning everything you can about what moves the pair..

also you need to figure out if you want to be a long term or short term trader..

set up a practice account somewhere like forex.com and start playing around with it..

when you get comfortable trading, try a real money acct..

i will warn you, forex is not for the faint of heart. you can lose money fast if you dont watch what you are doing.

the best advice i can give is learn all you can, hit the forex forums and ask a lot of questions, and set rules and stick to them..

i dont ever look at that pair, so i cant really say... but, it def helps to know alot about the pairs economy and what moves it...

so, that pair is probably a good pair for you since you live in australia and see the economy first hand...

but, a word of caution; the forex market is crazy.. sometimes what you think will make a pair go one way, will actually go the opposite...

just learn to look for the trends...

Yeah I've noticed that. Can be violently choppy in any pair pretty much. I'm aiming to learn this stuff over years before I even start trading proper. Gotta be realistic.
