The Night Shift

stand up and be counted...fuckers

just because we have troubles sleeping doesn't mean we're going to turn out like Robin Williams and Al Pacino did in the movie Insomnia

or will we?

Speaking of sleeping, can anyone recommend an effective, non habit forming sleep aid?

Insomniac fucker right here. Im only up cuz I got another mass mailing coming out tommorow and I'm hand deleting the opt outs since my main db crashed [pos]. So I'm sucking down some Gevalias, listening to Jesus and The Mary Chain, GFY window open, and slavishly hand inputting away.

Ambien. It just came out and its biggest selling point is that its both non addictive and does not make you groggy the next day.

Thanks, I'll check into the recommendations. My doctor recently gave me some powerful shit, Remeron, which is typically prescribed as an anti-depressant. If you take a small dose, around 7.5mg, you're out within an hour, but the hangover lasts for 2 days.

Why is it that I'm hearing Alanis Morissette (sp?) singing "Isn't It Ironic?" right now...

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
Isn't it ironic... don't you think?

The night shift, while it can be detrimental to relationships, is the ultimate. My perfect schedule is up at about 6pm. That way you still have a little daylight left. Then you can work all night in relative peace and quiet. You can grocery shop and nobody else is there. Then stay up late enough that around bed time is when banks and shit are open. So you get all your bank and post office shit done early in the morning, and then you fall asleep by 11am, and then back up at 6pm.

Its perfect.

Its not to be attempted long term by amateurs. Gradually work into it. Your relationships may suffer... as when other people in your life want to do things in the morning to afternoon, you are like "fuck that, its bedtime". But fuck those weaklings, they will never understand your genius.

Imavane is great -

I just dont sleep normally, but a couple of those things and I can actually feel my eyelids close. If I dont make to bed in time I just sleep where I am.

Often wake up with "Q W E R T Y" implanted in my forehead

i've always agreed with you on this. simply the most efficient time to work - very little bullshit.

i'm not sure i want to live the rest of my life this way, but for maximizing work completed, it can't be beat.

noon is over-rated. I live in the city basically, and all there is between noon and 5:30 is traffic and people. And I hate both. You know how much traffic there is at 3 am? Not a whole lot. And besides, the freaks come out at night. Go to any big 24 hour shopping place at 3 am. Nothing but freaks.

And when you go out drinking, which I dont do as much as I used to, after everyone else is tanked and passed out by 4, you can still get a good drunk 4 hours of work in. Or drunk multiplayer games, cause everyone knows how much fun drunken combat can be at 4 am.

Oh, this is soooooo sad. Since my office is right next door to our bedroom and the hubby is sleeping, I can't crank up any tunes... so I'm stuck watching the tv in here...and old reruns of "The Nanny". My life as I know it, is over. I think I'm gonna call it a morning and go crawl into the crypt. Have fun gang. Catch ya's on the next night shift!

BAH! Technology has overcome that obstacle.

DirecTV with Tivo. Now you just have all your shows record while you sleep. Not tapes and crap to fuck with, it records is to its little hard drive. And season passes so it records every instance of your favorite shows across 400 channels. And more obscure specialty channels than anyone possibly needs.

The only real drawback I hate about this shift is 9 to 5 businesses. Like any sort of state or government offices.
