Insomnia is great through the summer time, but is a bit rougher when school starts for the kids. So I get to sleep around 3, up at 7 to get the kids up and ready for school, a catnap from 12:30 to 1:30 then on the weekends, I sleep inuntil about 9 or 9:30...I've learned the art of sleeping 5 hours a day and am also a master catnapper.......

I used to think that Brad Pitt was just a pretty boy, but I changed my mind.

The guy might be good looking, but he doesn't really go after the pretty boy roles in the movies he chooses to do.

His career was launched by his boy toy role in Thelma & Louise, but once he got to pick and choose his roles he did movies like Kalifornia, Twelve Monkeys, Fight Club, and Snatch.

Surf Notes:

The parent low pressure system of the frontal boundary that has had its axis positioned over the islands (bringing unsettled and rainy weather to the islalnds this week), was the source of the recent rise in surf along our NW shores. This swell, which peaked on Wednesday, will gradually be coming down in size now through Friday. It will still be large enough that most spots will have good to very good surf sessions...that is unless the conditions aren't good. This fading swell will set the stage for the next even larger swell train of waves, which will arrive by the weekend.

As I've been mentioned each day recently, a former typhoon named Bavi generated a significant swell as it moved out of the tropics and into the middle latitudes of the north Pacific earlier this week. Current weather maps show this storm now heading into the Aleutian Islands of Alaska as a 976 millibar storm low. This storm had near hurricane force winds wrapping around its western flank, which created a wide fetch of strong winds pointed towards our islands for at least 24+ hours. This in turn will arrive at some point Friday, bringing the state's first real taste of winter-like surf to the islands! These waves could reach 15-20 feet at most of the big name spots around the state, including Jaw's here on Maui's north shore. These waves will stick around through the weekend, gradually dropping in size after Saturday. Saturday should be the best day, before the trade winds bring their choppiness back into the picture on Sunday. This is some pretty exciting stuff now, and will trigger all kinds of activity as these very large waves start to roll in soon!

Meanwhile, the south and east sides have some waves, but mostly in the small range, with not a lot of change expected there for the time being. As noted above, most of the action will remain focused on the north shores now.

A good' ole fashioned remedy from mom: warm milk with a dash of honey mixed gently with 2 dalmanes and a gram of opium, preferably while coming down from a good skunk buzz.
