try taking out the batter, then putting it back and see what happens. What lights are the ones that all stay on? What is the brand/model?

There is a tiny button near the monitor that puts the laptop into stand-by mode when you close the monitor of your laptop to his keyboard. I can't explain better. Just see if it isn't stucked inside his small hole. If it is, that's the problem and you need to pull it out with a needle.

Mine was doing something similar, and it was a blown ram chip.

Get a new ram chip and replace the one that is in the outside slot.
If that does not work, take it some place and have the one on the mother board checked.

All laptops have a backlight inside the monitor, if that goes out, you have to relpace it. I jsut had two cases with that same problem

Motherboard probably dead ... If it is under warranty, go for it; otherwise, get anew one

I had that on a gateway ... cost of repair was near equivalent to purchasing a new one. And the techs wanted to be paid for the estimate ... So a new one was the solution...

Sell the parts of the old one on Ebay ....

sounds like a motherboard issue to me, you will have to get it tested dude.
