yeah I think the fight should of stopped when kimbo was stuck on the ground.. from what I know he was not defending himself.. he has lots to learn on the ground yet.

Bad stoppage.
Thompson took plenty of big hits int he fight and kept on coming. The bleeding wasn't affecting his vision or anything. Mirragliotta should have let it go a little longer yet. There was no grounds for a stoppage in my eyes.
Either way, that fight fucking sucked. The pair of them were gassed by the end of the second round. Thompson's punches were weaker and slower than shit when he had Kimbo down against the cage, and Kimbo was just laying and praying. BOOOOOOOOOOO!
We got the see Kimbo on the ground, which was nice, and he didn't appear completely hopeless, but I saw pretty much what I had expected. Enough to know that anyone with a real ground game would rip his fucking ass to shreds.
The entire event kind of blew in my opinion. The best fight of the night should have been Lawler and Scott Smith, which may have also been a bad stoppage, but at least we're going to see a rematch. I think they should have given him his 5 minutes personally, but hey, at least i can underdstand their reasoning behind that stop.
In the end I think Gina's fight was the best of the night, and even she came in over weight, slow, and generally fairly lackluster.
This event fucking blew, and I'm glad it didn't cost anything to watch. here's hoping WEC put son a better show tomorrow night.
On another subject. Has anyone else noticed EliteXC taking a real WWF turn here? The entire thing is looking like a novelty show tonight. i had some high hopes for EliteXC becoming a good mma alternative, and tonight hasn't done much to help it grow on me personally. What was with Baroni's fucking WWF entry? For fuck sakes.Comment

I watched the fight with a MMA fighter ,and afficando and he is disgusted by what harm this show on free TV has done to the rep of MMA.
Thompson had what was effectively a blood blister on his ear. You could see it as he entered the ring.
No doubt from being smart enough to focus training on his ground fighting.
You saw a newbie franchise trying to protect their investment in a new "name"
They should have watched tapes of Don King.

Why didn't he get his ear drained before the fight? That thing just blew up. Still, guys have easily faught through that in the past. I don't get how they call that but don't bother calling it when Kimbo takes 15 elbow shots without even defending himself.
Fact is Kimbo was exposed for what he is. Thompson is a bum who absolutely dominated him on the ground. Kimbo wins with some major help from from the refs. This isn't real, it's WWE. MMA has jumped the shark.Comment

I was impressed that Kimbo was able to pull some move soff on the ground. However, the ref could easily have stopped the fight when Kimbo wasn't defending the elbow strikes when he was pinned against the cage in round two. And despite the ear popping, the fight could easily have gone further in round three, and who knows if Kimbo would have knocked him out or not for sure. Kimbo was indeed totally gassed at the end. So he should be proud of having shown some skills, but this definitely lets him know how much he has to learn as well.Comment

don't ignore the fact that even gina came into the fight over weight, she seemed slow, and for a while i honestly wasn't sure she was gonna do it. while i considered it the best fight of the night. even it blew. gina could, and i hope she does do better. she needs to train a little harder for her next fight. though she's clearly gained enough fame for herself to do well never having to win a fight again.Comment

Lets just hope he DOES learn from it. It happens to a lot of fighters who are known for early round knockouts. They get matched up against someone who can take them into the late rounds and they just gas out and don't know what to do. it's not going to get an easier for Kimbo than what he has seen so far and it's only going to go uphill. Let shope he sees the mistake she made and doesn't make them again. He needs to condition for endurance a little more, he already has the strength.
I still want to see Kimbo do good, i just think he's way overhyped for where he is right now. That could be a good thing for him, or it COULD turn around on him hard...Comment

The rules clearly state... Stop the fight if the fighter does not intelligently defend himself. The fight should have been stopped in the 2nd round, when Kimbo was on the fence and could not stop the unanswered blows.
End of story. This is bullshit, watching it with Nick, the whole time I kept going on that the Kimbo myth has been exsposed. A C level fighter was taking Kimbo down, taking his best punches, and kept going.
Kimbo wouldn't be able to hang with a new UFC HW fighter. Sorry to actually say it. Sean Gannon who beat him years ago, didn't last very long in the UFC either, he got his ass whooped by a B Level UFC Heavyweight.
I'm frankly disgusted by EliteXC, it has done more to make MMA a fucking farce as a real sport, than McCain did in the dark days pre 2000.

where your glasses next time please. he took ALOT of big punches int hat fight and he kept comign back. he was not out at all, and easily could have taken kimbo down again and won the fight on the ground in my opinion. the stoppage was bad. no question. what would have happened next, who knows? if it stayed standing, kimbo would have won shortly. if thimpsonwas able to get kimbo down, he likely would have won on the ground. the fight was stopped to early to find out, and without good reason. miraggliotta can suck my sweaty nutsack. shitty call. i wonder how much they pay him to make sure kimbo wins...Comment

Yeah Thompson was knocked out on his feet, so knocked he threw a punch back before the ref stopped the fight.
In fact you are right, Thompson was knocked out on his feet too in the 2nd round when Kimbo hit him with a combo, then he took Kimbo down to the ground and pounded on him for the majority of the 2nd round.
I've watched Thompson get knocked the fuck out in at least 3 fights, his last fight with EliteXC, he got his clocked clean, by "The Dreaded" Rogers who fought tonight. You don't know what you are talking about.

Sounds more like bullshit, you looked up his record and came up with that. I'm one of the biggest MMA geeks I know, and I haven't seen him fight in Cage Rage, or Urban Destruction to see any of those knockouts.
I've seen him knocked the fuck out by Fujita, Aleks Emelianko, both from Pride FC, and Rogers last Elitexc. He got KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT, not on his feet, out cold.
Kimbo did not do that tonight, and this stop was utter bullshit.
The rules again state: A fight shall be stopped if a fighter does not intelligently defend himself.
that was round 2 when Kimbo was up on the fence getting punched and elbowed in the face with impunity by Thompson.
The stoppage was bullshit.

I've been watching EliteXC for a few events now and was hoping to see them pick up some better fighters and make a run at things, but after this event I can say they have lost any and all credibility to me as a fight fan. it's plain to see they're taking the dramatic wwf hyping a steamy shitlog approach to things...

preferential treatment by the ref for sure... EliteXC is depending on kimbo to be their milestone fighter and if he loses that would not go well for business. Hopefully EliteXC will fail in mma like the XFL failed in football.
